Over the last few weeks, all of our Thirds girls have been participating enthusiastically in the English Department’s Spellathon competition. A number of girls achieved excellent results and participated in the final, the “Grand Spell-Off”, which was held just before half-term. After a series of exciting heats, Catherine (3X) and Ava (3L) emerged as joint top spellers. Kiera (3M), Thulasii (3Y) and Ariana (3X) were runners up.
As well as honing the girls’ spelling skills, one of the aims of the Spellathon is to raise money for the school charity which, this year, is Lumos. Collectively, the Thirds have raised the impressive sum of £3,400.54. 3X and 3Y are commended in particular for raising the most money as form groups: 3X raised £1,219 and 3Y raised £1,123. Congratulations, also, to Ava (3L) for not only being one of our top spellers but also for raising the most amount of money individually.
Our top spellers and fundraisers were awarded book tokens, certificates and other prizes in an assembly by Mrs Hanbury.
