The Creative Arts

Music plays an important role at Burlington House

As well as class lessons in Music, singing and dance, we have a thriving orchestra, choir, string and ensemble and brass group, and the opportunity for lessons in a wide variety of instruments. These are given by visiting staff in the Senior School, or in one of the Junior School practise rooms. There is an annual Spring Concert, a musical production each Summer, and a Christmas Carol Service in our local church. In each term there is an informal Tea concert and a Soloists' and Ensembles' concert in the Summer term gives a platform for the more advanced musicians to perform.

Room to express themselves

Freedom of expression, learning to use a variety of media, and design and construction skills are all fostered to a high standard with the girls being taught by specialist teachers in their well equipped art rooms. The girls' work is on display throughout the school for all to enjoy.

Building confidence is key

Drama is taught as a class lesson from the start. From poetry to Shakespeare, to acting and making props for a production, and writing and performing their own plays, there is something for everyone. While much of our work is imaginative and creative, the girls are encouraged from the start to develop good oral communication skills, and to present their ideas with confidence. Individual and group Speech and Drama lessons are available, at extra cost.
