LEH Sports Dinner 2018
On 27th April, the LEH dining hall was host to the Annual Sports Dinner. The evening was a chance for the Sports Department, students and their parents to celebrate the years’ outstanding achievements. Following drinks and an introductory speech from Mrs Budd, we enjoyed a superb dinner from the catering staff. After the main course we heard speeches from the Sports Captains who outlined the successes of the past year and individual awards and colours were handed out. Awards were given to MVPs for the season, alongside ‘Spirit awards’ that were voted for by each team. It was a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our teammates and to see how well all the other sports teams had done throughout the year.
The highlight of the evening was a speech from Paralympic gold medal swimmer, Claire Cashmore MBE. She spoke about her 16 year quest to win a Paralympic gold and of her determination never to give up despite losing in the breastroke final by just seconds at the 2012 London Olympics in front of a home crowd. Following her narrow defeat, she was able to fight back and won gold in the 4x100m medley relay at Rio 2016. Her departing message was to make yourself the best possible version that you can be and to not focus on the competition. It was great to have the opportunity to hear from such a talented and experienced sportswomen and her words left us all inspired.
The evening was a lovely way to end our sporting careers at LEH and it was particularly special to see photos of the U6th as U12, reminding us of the great memories we have made together. We’d like to thank all of the Sports Department for the support that they’ve given us throughout our time at LEH and also for organising such a great evening.
