Farewell to UVI
We said a sad but proud farewell to our UVI leavers on Friday, 18th May, marking their momentous final day in school with a range of hugely enjoyable celebrations. The day began as ever with a delicious breakfast served in the Staff Refectory with bacon rolls and pancakes proving especially popular. Yearbooks were also handed out at the breakfast, and many were keen to have their books signed by friends and staff alike. With breakfast barely digested, we were then all off to the upstairs corridor outside the Assembly Hall balcony for a full-scale rave! Glitter and sparkles were the order of the day, and with the music pumping out we danced to our hearts’ content – Mrs Hanbury, included! After a rapid and highly efficient clear-up operation, the UVI pupils and their form tutors then headed down to Bushy Park for our traditional picnic in the sun. UVIE were the proud winners of the dress-your-form-tutor-in-newspaper competition, with Miss Parker, on the occasion of her final picnic, looking a vision of loveliness as Meghan Markle in all her wedding day finery! Once Ms Ellison had closed proceedings with some moving words and the awarding of some more tongue-in-cheek prizes, the pupils had the afternoon to themselves to prepare for the glamour of the Graduation Ceremony in the evening. After a touching speech from Mrs Hanbury which paid full tribute to the amazing contributions made by the pupils and their parents to the life of the school, each pupil was invited to come up on stage to receive a leavers’ certificate, an alumna badge and a keyring engraved with ‘Class of 2018’. With the formalities completed, celebrations then continued into the evening over food and drinks in the Dining Hall and Friends’ Courtyard, and many took advantage of the professional photographer on-hand to capture the celebrations for posterity.
Good luck, Class of 2018 – we will miss you enormously!
