Academic Programme

While life for LEH girls is about more than exam results, we know they are the key that opens the doors to the universities and careers fo their choice.

A levels are changing

The Government is in the process of reforming A levels. By September 2017, when current Year 10 pupils enter Sixth Form, AS examinations will no longer count towards the full A level. Instead, students will follow a two-year linear course and sit all of the exams that count towards their A level grades at the end of Upper Sixth.

If you are joining us in 2017, this means you can choose four subjects to study from the beginning of Lower Sixth. At the end of the year, you'll sit internal examinations. In Upper Sixth, you can continue with either four or three subjects and take your final exams in the summer 2019.

Currently you can choose four of the following subjects:

  • Art
  • English Literature
  • History
  • Philosophy*
  • Biology
  • French
  • History of Art*
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Geography
  • Latin
  • Product Design*
  • Classical Civilisation*
  • German
  • Mathematics*
  • Psychology
  • Drama & Theatre Studies
  • Government & Politics*
  • Mathmatics & Further Mathematics*
  • Spanish
  • Economics
  • Greek
  • Music

Maths and Further Maths count as one choice, although it will result in two A levels.

We do everything we can to make sure girls get to take their first choice subjects, but very occasionally this isn't possible. We reserve the right to withdraw a subject if fewer than three students want to take a course.

*Subjects for which the reformed specifications are taught for the first time, starting in September 2017

Pupils also have the option of studying for the AQA Baccalaureate.
