Congratulations to the UII swimming squad who finished in second place at the IAPS national swimming finals at the London Aquatic Centre on 8th June and competed in the English Schools Swimming Association finals in Sheffield on 15th June, with the team winning silver medal in the freestyle and fourth place in the medley relays. What an amazing achievement, well done! Thank you to the team for all their hard work in training and to Mrs Lyne and Mrs Sehgal for all their hard work in training too! You can read below the write ups for both events by our Swimming Captain, Holly.

IAPS National Swimming Finals

On 8th June, we competed in the IAPS National Swimming Finals at the London Aquatic Centre. 5000 swimmers from 300 schools competed to reach the finals, with the top 20 for each event getting through. It was a great opportunity to swim in the 2012 Olympic pool.

The team met Mrs Lyne and Mrs Seghal early outside the pool – Emma, Lizzie, Amelia, Jia Ying, Grace and I. We were all very excited. The under 11 relays came first and the team swam well in both the medley and freestyle events, coming fourth and second place. Grace swam in the individual breast stroke race and I swam in the freestyle, and we both got new PBs.

Overall the team came second place, a fantastic result and a great reward for all the training and hard work over the last year.

ESSA Finals

On 15th June, it was the English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) Finals which were being held in Sheffield. The competition was for relays only and we had qualified in both events, the freestyle and medley relays.

We knew it was going to be a difficult gala because not only was it a national competition but we were also swimming against mixed teams of boys and girls.

We made it through the heats to the finals and managed to win a silver medal in our freestyle and came an incredibly close fourth in our medley relay.

I think we all did an amazing job and well done Emma, Amelia, Lizzie, Grace, and Jia Ying who are a brilliant team! Thank you as always to Mrs Lyne and Mrs Sehgal.
