On 6th November, Mrs Hughes came from the Senior School to give an assembly about saying thank you on Remembrance Day, including telling the girls about the special contribution her great-grandfather had made in the First World War.

On 9th November, we held our assembly in the Gateway of the Senior School, where we went to admire the display of ‘thank you’ poppies which had been made by Senior School girls to mark the 100th anniversary, this coming Sunday, of the armistice which brought the First World War to an end. These had been hung from the ceiling above a mock-up of the kind of wire and mud of the First World War battlefields. Whilst we were there, the Junior School girls said their own thank yous for the sacrifice made by so many men and women in times of war that have led to the freedoms we enjoy today. Miss Barnes had taught all the girls a musical arrangement of the poem “In Flanders Fields” specially for the occasion, which they sang beautifully.
