On 16th February, a group of 50 girls and 7 teachers woke up bright and early and travelled to school for 4:30am. We then had a short coach journey to Stansted airport, a quick flight to Lyon and then a longer coach journey to the Alpe d’Huez resort. Once we had arrived, we were all given skis, boots and poles before heading off to bed as we were all very tired after a long day of travelling.

Every morning, we were woken up at 7am and then had 45 minutes to get ready before heading downstairs for breakfast. The food was delicious and there were lots of options to choose from. Then, we kitted up and headed down to the ski lift which would take us up to the main slopes/village. We were then put into our ski groups, ranging from complete beginners to confident skiers. The groups were mixed between the 3 year groups which gave us a chance to get to know some girls that weren’t in our year. We skied for 3 hours in the mornings with our ski instructor and one of the teachers where we were taught new skills, such as carving for my group. One morning, we did slalom and all got to race each other and even some of the teachers!

At midday, we would ski back to the hotel to have lunch, which also had a great variety of foods such as salads and pasta. After lunch, we had 2 more hours of skiing which was more free as we could choose the types of runs we wanted to do and our instructor would take us to the best ones. When we had finished our skiing for the day, we had an hour of free time before dinner which we could spend however we wanted. Some days we relaxed at the hotel playing cards and some days we walked up to the village where there was a small supermarket and lots of little shops, restaurants and cafés, including many very good places to get delicious crêpes.

Every night, after we had had dinner, we would have fun evening activities. The first night was a movie night where we watched Chalet Girl and got some very tasty popcorn. The next night was ‘Winter Olympics’ where we were in teams and got to do a range of exciting activities such as snow archery and human curling. The next few nights were the quiz, ice skating and bumboarding, which everyone enjoyed very much. The final evening, we had a talent show where we had to perform with our ski groups. There was a huge variety of acts including singing, magic, comedy, videos and poetry and then the teachers chose who came 3rd, 2nd and 1st.

We then travelled home the next day after a week of great snow and sunny weather, tired but happy, with lots of fond and funny memories.
