On 5th February, Nadya (UVIG) and Hannah (UVIE) represented LEH at the London round of the annual French Debating Competition. The girls had to debate three separate motions in French:

  • This house believes that we need to create a true European army.
  • This house believes we need to ban all traffic from town centres.
  • This house believes that the French government has done the right thing in banning the use of mobile phones in schools.

32 teams were participating in total and the girls won all three of their debates in the First round and went forward to debate in the quarter finals.

Although the girls did not get through to the final stage they were praised for the quality of their French and their spontaneity and fluency of expression. They put forward excellent arguments and showed real knowledge and understanding of the motions. A most impressive display of language skills!
