- Sixth Form
Annie Lee and Celia Birchall were two of the talented artists that studied A level Art last year. Some of our students used this A level to gain entry for architecture courses. Annie and Celia knew that they wished to apply for a Foundation year. These courses lead to specialisms in Art at degree level. Annie and Celia had a real passion for the subject. In their own words ‘They virtually lived in the LEH Art Department’. Both pupils gained Foundation course places, Annie at Central Saint Martins and Celia at Kingston University. We regularly receive updates on their progress and were delighted when Annie told us that she had been accepted for the Fine Art degree course at The Slade, whilst Celia will be attending the equally prestigious Fashion degree course at Edinburgh University next academic year.
At the end of last year, we knew that Annie had submitted one of her A level paintings, a self-portrait, to a television programme production team. The filming had to remain a secret. However, Annie recently contacted us to explain that she could now tell us that she had been selected to take part in the Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year. The first episode was televised on 26th March. Along with other artists Annie was asked to paint a portrait of the actress Gina McKee. All of the life drawing skills learnt at Sixth Form with Mr Curtis were very apparent. At the end of the programme Annie’s portrait was chosen and as a result she will now be appearing in the semi-final.
If you have the opportunity to watch Annie on the television it is truly inspirational and I would strongly recommend the Sky Arts Portrait of the Year series.
