On Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd May, 13 pupils from LEH took part in the World School Games Swimming Championships. For most, this was their first ever international event and nerves where high going in. All the students were supportive of each other and continued to show off their swimming abilities to the world. LEH came away with 6 gold, 8 Silver, and 5 bronze medals. This is a fantastic for all involved and it was clear that they all loved the experience to compete. Miss Harrison would like to say a huge well done to all who stepped up to show the world how good they are!

On Saturday, we also took four age groups to St Mary’s Ascot to compete in their annual athletics competition. Our athletes competed valiantly against some strong opposition with several notable performances throughout the day. Well done to all who competed with a special mention to Audrey (3rds) who won her 800m by a considerable margin, the U14 relay team who won their 4x100m race and Grace (U15) who beat her PB in the High Jump. We competed against Brighton College, Epsom College, Bradfield College, Godstowe Prep, St Mary’s Ascot, St Georges Weybridge and Queen Anne’s Caversham.

On Monday our U12&U13 LEH team 1 v LEH team 2 Tennis for the final match of the LTA tennis league. While the second team played some great tennis, the first team came away with the win. Well done to both for this and all their other matches within the LTA League. The results of the winners in each age category will be announced next month once all the schools have played their matches.

On Wednesday, we took part in the Middlesex, London and Kent schools Combined Events competition. Our athletes had to compete in the 75m hurdles, shot putt, high jump, long jump and the 800m. Due to the large number of athletes entered, there were 2 pools for most events. This meant that after the hurdles the athletes did not know their ranking until just before they competed in the last event. The students also got to talk to two-time Olympian Katrina Johnson-Thompson (Heptathlete) who was training at the venue! After getting over the excitement of meeting an Olympian, pupils went into the 800m ranked 9th, 14th and 17th, they all put in strong final push in their 800m race to finish over all. They finished the day placing 9th, 12th and 13th out of 24 athletes. We now await confirmation if they have qualified for the next round.

Also on Wednesday the U12s had their first cricket fixture of the season against Putney. The teams battle the elements with rain, sunshine and strong winds to put on a great display of cricket. The U12As put on a  great display with bat and ball to see out great win against a solid Putney team. The U12B showed their effective batting and bowling but just fell short by 9 runs keeping Putney on their toes. The U12C put a great shift in with the ball and bat but fell short by five runs keeping everyone on the edge of seats. The U12D worked hard as a team and showed great potential in their batting and bowling pushing Putney all the way to the end. The fixture was played in a fantastic spirit and at a high level of cricket. Well done to all.

The National Schools Regatta starts today for three days at Dorney Lake. Wishing the J14, J15, J16 and Seniors rowers the very best of luck!

The PE department would like to wish everyone a restful half term. As we have exams the first week back, there will be no extra curricular or fixtures that week. Fixtures will therefore resume on Monday 13th June.
