A busy week with lots to report on;

On Friday last 17th June the Inter-girls went to the A final of the English Schools Track and Field Cup London North round. Having arrived at 9am and it being 25 degrees already the pupils were excited to get going. After having some withdrawals due to injury, we finished the track in 5th place overall narrowly just out of the top four. Despite the escalating temperatures, we came away with some good performances in the field events. We finished the day with the relays and our Inter-girls won the relays out of 12 schools, running it in 56 seconds. Well done to all who took part.

Saturday 18th June we had one student take part in the Middlesex Inter-Counties Track and Field Championships. This was an opportunity to gain a place in the Middlesex team for the English Schools Athletics Association track and field Championships. Ursula had a strong heat and placed 2nd overall qualifying her for the final. Unfortunately, the weather took a turn which meant conditions became cold and slightly wet. Ursula managed to finish 5th overall and narrowly missed out on qualification English Schools Athletics Association track and field Championships.

We also had 20 pupils from the L4 and Thirds track and field teams travelled to Epsom college to compete in a friendly fixture. It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to test themselves against other competitors and try to match or pass their personal bests. The team were fantastic with solid performances all around.

On Monday of this week we took 12 Thirds for a friendly tennis match against Godolphin & Latymer. Despite losing 5 matches to 11 with 2 draws, there was fantastic tennis played with some brilliant rallies. Well done to all those who played.

On Tuesday, the U13A cricket team travelled to Barn Elm Sports Centre to compete against four other schools in the U13 Girls Chance to Compete Softball Competition. The increased traffic did not stop them from flying out of the blocks in the first game. Captaining the team, Evie led the team well and with the bowling attack limited the opposition to 45 runs. Elouise had a fantastic last over of bowling taking three wickets. They now had to score 46 runs from 40 balls. Elouise and Simona opening the batting and kept the score board ticking over with well time placed shots and effective running between the stumps. They reached the target with five balls to go. In our second game bowling attack we continued our dominance holding the opponents to 32 runs. Their run chase was fast and fierce with Georgie, Anoushka and Lara racing to reach 33 runs. In our third game they bowled valiantly but faced some regular club cricketers who batted well and found the gaps in the field. They chased the score but unfortunately fell short. The team learnt the importance of taking advantage of poor bowls and when fielding to walk in and react to the ball being hit. In the penultimate game they bowled extremely well and chased down the oppositions run total to secure the win. Well done to all the players and it was fantastic to see them adapt and improve on their own skills throughout the day. The future of LEH cricket is very bright.

On Wednesday 22nd June we took 35 athletes across Thirds to L5 to Kingsmeadow in Kingston to the Borough Athletics.  We had some excellent results on the track events across all age groups winning the hurdles in three age groups, and coming second in the 4th age group. Overall we won the Year 9 Girls, came 2nd in Year 10 Girls & Year 11 Girls, 3rd in Year 8 Girls and 4th in Year 7 Girls, finishing 3rd overall in the girls category. Really well done to all who took part on what turned out to be a very hot and long day. What a great way to finish the season this year! The PE department want to say well done to all who have come to athletics this year and good luck to those going to the Middlesex championships on Monday.

Today we will have our first Sports Day since Summer 2019 (last year was sadly cancelled due to heavy rain). With lots of events organised across the Houses, it is sure to be a wonderful day. We will let you know next week.

A huge congratulations goes out to Amelia (L4) and her doubles partner who made it to the final of the Play your way to Wimbledon South East Regional U18 Doubles finals tournament. This means they have qualified for the National Finals which will be played on the grass at Wimbledon in August. Wishing them both the very best of luck from LEH.
