Lacrosse
On Saturday 11 November, our LEH lacrosse teams travelled to Downe House school. The rain had eased, and the sun was shining on a glorious autumn day!
The 1st team had a tough match up this past week. The team matched the opposition in the first half and found themselves only down by one. The team defence put up a great fight and the attack showed their potential. Unfortunately, Downe House pulled away in the second half. The team showed massive improvements and now know what to work on in the future. Mabel H performed brilliantly, leading the team in getting to the goal and creating opportunities for an MVP performance.
The 2nd Team bought their A game to the match. They played with confidence and discipline and as a result they won their match 6-5. An excellent team performance by all. Our MVPs were Lauren S, Alice M and Jemima D.
The U15A Team played a closely contested match in the first half with only one goal between the teams. Despite their best efforts the team could not keep pace with their opposition and lost 8-13. MVPs: Amelia B, Chloe B, Amber R, Anushka D.
The U14 A Team displayed discipline and determination in their match v Downe House. They took control of the game by making strong decisions in all areas of the pitch. As a result, the team had a convincing win of 9 - 4. Well played to the whole team. Our MVP's were Liv C and Eliza H.
The U14B Team took control of the game in the first half of their match against Downe House as they were 1 up. Their communication throughout was excellent! Unfortunately, their opponents were quite aggressive with their checks and although the umpire penalised them with yellow cards, the momentum of the LEH players was lost. The final score was a close 3-4 to Downe House. It is certain that the LEH team took lots away from the match and will bounce back stronger next time. MVP: Sharon P.
The U14C Team got off to a flying start! We had multiple players scoring and solid performances from our defenders. They were able to maintain their high standard earning them a confident 12-4 win. MVPs: Isla T, Scout J, Callie M
The U12 Red Team had some new faces in our squad this week and they came out of the gates strong earning a lead going into halftime. Our opponents came out ready to battle and despite our best efforts we could not keep them at bay. The score ended 4-6 with Downe House coming out the victors. There were lots of positives and lots of teachable moments. MVPs: Livia F, Hollie D Amelia H.
The U12 White Team played out a close win this past Saturday. The game was played with a great spirit and the team supported each other throughout. The team put into practice what they had covered in the previous practices and reaped the results. The team put together some fantastic plays led by Leona M and Eloise H and pulled ahead at the end to get the win. Well played by all!
The U12 Blue Team played a brilliant game this past Saturday. The team showed a great chemistry sharing the ball and creating opportunities. The team showed great decision making to earn the win. Mira S, Artemis K and Maya N led the team with brilliant transition play through the midfield. Well done to the whole team for a fantastic team performance.
Netball
Our U16A team had a very competitive and exciting match against Epsom College on Tuesday in the Sister’s in Sport Plate competition. The game went goal for goal for most of the time with some excellent play from the whole team. Our defence turned over several attempts from Epsom and our attack were strong in taking the ball to goal. It was a tough last quarter but we are delighted that the team edged past the opposition in the last few minutes to win by 2, 28-26. Well done to the whole team on a great win which takes them into the next round. Players of the match went to Holly and Hannah.
Badminton
On Monday the U15 Badminton A and B teams took on Twickenham School in the Borough pairs badminton tournament. There was excellent play by both our teams, with our A quartet finishing 1st and our B quartet closely behind in 2nd place. Well done to all our players on a fantastic result.
Cross-Country
After qualifying for the English Schools’ Cup Regional final our Junior Girls’ team competed in a 2½km race against a top-quality field. They competed against schools from Middlesex, London and Hertfordshire. All runners had a fantastic race, especially Eloise who finished 11th. Congratulations also to Ceci, Harriet and Annabel who made up our scoring team. Overall, we finished a respectable 7th out of 18 schools. Well done to all our athletes who took part and we look forward to seeing you race at the Richmond Boroughs in December.
Cricket
We have another achievement to celebrate in cricket with Brishelle (L4) receiving her Middlesex youth cap as Lords Cricket Ground. She has played for the county team for the last two years and was awarded her cap in the Men’s dressing room which is a significant moment in the history of the sport for women to be recognised here.
Karate achievements
Our brilliant Karate athlete, Lehara (L5) has competed in a couple of top-level competitions recently and we are delighted to share her accomplishments outside of LEH. She competed in the International European Karate tournament held at Crystal Palace London last weekend. This was run by the British Karate Guild and Lehara performed outstandingly, gaining first place in the Under 16 girls’ category. She managed to beat a very experienced black belt who is going to the world karate tournament next year in the process which is a fantastic achievement. She is also looking to attend the world tournament next year and we wish her well in the trials!
Lehara also qualified for the GB squad who went to Belgium for a karate tournament that had the toughest fighters across the world qualifying to attend. It was a tough experience and competition but she still managed to achieve 3rd place. She is also hoping to qualify again next year as she thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Well done on your achievements Lehara, we are delighted for you!
