In music, the U2 girls have been learning about the Gamelan: the traditional Indonesian orchestra. On Monday 9th May, we went to the Horniman Museum to play in a real Gamelan. Each of the girls learned how to play several of the instruments about which we had been learning. We also looked at the Music Gallery, which houses over 9,500 instruments collected from all corners of the world. The oldest instrument in the display is a pair of clappers made of bone and shaped to look like a pair of hands, which was made in Egypt over 3,500 years ago. After our picnic lunch we took a walk around the nature trail featuring plants and flowers from South America and South Africa.
