Sports Round Up 9 May

The past week has been filled with impressive performances across a range of sports, showcasing the dedication and talent of our students. From outstanding results in gymnastics to thrilling cricket matches and exciting athletics competitions, our athletes have demonstrated remarkable skill and determination. We are proud to highlight the achievements of individuals and teams who have excelled in their respective events, representing the School with pride and pushing themselves to new heights.

Gymnastics

Congratulations to Polina P and Isabella D on their outstanding results at the BSGA National Schools Gymnastics Finals on Saturday 3 May. Both gymnasts qualified for the London Regional Team that competed in the National Tumbling Finals at Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke-on-Trent.  The competition was exciting, with many accomplished gymnasts performing difficult and well executed tumble runs.  We are pleased to announce that Isabella D finished in 10th place with Polina P finishing in 5th, just 0.1 behind the Bronze Medal Gymnast.  Both gymnasts should be extremely proud of their performances in front of such a large audience and against such tough competition.

Congratulations also to Polina who competed at the World Cheerleading Competition held in the United States recently. A fantastic experience for Polina!

Cricket

The cricket season is in full swing with friendly fixtures and cup competitions taking place so far this term.

The U13 and U15 cricket teams played in the first round of the School Sport Magazine National T20 competitions against North London Collegiate School. The U13 team won by 26 runs and 5 wickets with Rhythm leading the way with 62 runs and Amelia recording 3-12 bowling. The U15s won by 62 runs and 5 wickets with Brishelle scoring 57 with the bat. Tara recorded 2-9 and Aoife 2-15 with the ball. The U13s will play Epsom College and the U15 will play Cranleigh School in the next round.

Last Saturday, the U15, U14 and U13 teams hosted Kingston Grammar School. All three teams played brilliantly with bat and ball and fell just short of the wins. The students reflected well on competing against tough opposition and are eager to continue their development.

The U13s were back on action this past week in the Middlesex Schools Cup. They had a quarter final match against Belmont Mill Hill Prep School. The team came out victorious by 92 runs and 5 wickets. Rhythm led the scoring with 70 runs and Shakti recorded an impressive bowling spell of 4-6.

Well done to all who have represented the School in the last couple of weeks, and we look forward to the future fixtures and performances.

Athletics

Our Year 7&8 athletes travelled to Epsom College on Saturday morning to compete against Epsom College, Berkhamsted, KGS, St Teresa's and Thomas's Battersea in their first athletics meeting of the year.

For most of our Thirds (Year 7) students it was their first time representing LEH in athletics. All athletes demonstrated excellent determination and speed. Stand out performances on the track came from Sufi winning her 200m and Alice coming 2nd in the 300m. On the field, congratulations to Genevieve finishing 2nd in the discus, Jemima finishing 1st in the B string high jump and Annabel finishing 2nd in the A string high jump. All Thirds (Year 7) athletes performed fantastically and as a team finished 2nd overall - we can't wait to see how they progress throughout the season.

Our Year 8 athletes demonstrated strong performances on the both the track and field with lots of PBs being broken. The day started with wins in the 100m from both Rhianwen and Shakti. Bella then jumped over 4m in the long jump to take the win. The standout performance of the day goes to Maya who cleared 1.50m in the high jump to convincingly take the win. All Year 8 athletes performed excellently and as a team finished 1st against some strong competition.

Out of all six schools that participated, LEH finished 2nd overall just behind Epsom College. Well done to all students!

Our Year 7&8 team also travelled to Claremont School in the week to compete in an open track meet. Students participated in a variety of track events aiming to beat and set new personal bests. For many this was their first opportunity to race for LEH on the track. Teddy (Year 7) started off the meet by taking the win in the Year 7 75m hurdles followed by a convincing win from Isabella (Year 8) in the same event. The 800m followed the hurdles with strong performances with nearly all students getting PBs and well done to Esme who won the Year 8 race overall. We then turned our attention to the sprints in the 100m, 200m and 300m. Stand our sprint performances came from Alice, Olivia and Annabelle. Well done to all athletes took part, fanatical afternoon of racing!
