We have had a fantastic and busy week of sport. It has been brilliant to see so many pupils participating across the school in a variety of sports and achieving great success. Enjoy reading what we have been up to.

Good luck to the lacrosse teams at the National Schools lacrosse starting this weekend.

Swimming

LEH A and B teams qualified for the North of the River finals, hosted at Latymer School on Wednesday 5th March. Seventeen swimmers attended and performed strongly in 27 events on the program against five other finalist schools. We had top three individual results in the Open 100m Freestyle, Year 7 50m Backstroke (A and B), Year 7 Breaststroke (A and B), Year 7 Fly, (A), Year 7 Freestyle (A) and Year 8 Freestyle (A). Our Year 7A and B team Relays were also very competitive, finishing in the Top 3 across all four events in Medley and Freestyle. It was a positive team environment, with lots of support and encouragement and all swimmers showed their best consistently. Congratulations on making the LSL Finals this year!

Cross-Country

Our Junior Girls cross-country team, consisting of Thirds and Lower 4 students, travelled up to Leeds on Friday to race in the postponed English Schools Cup National Final. On the Friday evening, the girls had an inspirational talk with 800m Olympian Alexandra Bell where they had the opportunity to ask lots of questions about how she started in the sport and about tips for their race the next day. On Saturday morning, the girls travelled to Leeds Grammar School, along with all the other finalists. Our team all had a fantastic race with nearly all of them running PBs for the 2.5km distance.  A special mention to Alice B (Thirds) and Eloise L (Lower 4) who both finished in the top 50. The team finished 24th overall. Well done to all girls, Alice B, Alice C, Sienna D, Eloise L, Alisa S and Charlotte P, what an amazing achievement, we can’t wait to see what you do in the summer on the track.

Netball

On Monday, we took the U14 B-E teams to St Paul's and there were some fantastic netball played throughout all the teams. Congratulations to our B, C and D teams who all took convincing wins. Unfortunately, the E team lost but showed marked improvement and progression throughout the match with players taking feedback on board to play a great second half.  Well done to players of the match, Ella, Saachi, Emilia, Isabel and Ruya all voted for by the opposition.

Our U12A and U13A teams travelled to Highgate School for their County Tournament on Tuesday. This was the first tournament the U12’s have played and they can be proud of their performance. Both teams had a tough start at the beginning of the day but soon found our flow resulting in some great wins. Our U12 achieved 9th position at the end of the tournament out of the 18 schools. Our U13’s also achieved 9th place out of the 20 schools competing. Congratulations to both teams.

On Wednesday we hosted the County Finals for the U18, U16, U15 and U14 netball. These were the top six schools in Middlesex who had qualified in the preliminary rounds back in October. We were represented in all age categories. It was a fantastic afternoon of quality netball played throughout with some impressive wins. Unfortunately, our U14 and U15’s were pipped at the post and were runners-up being placed 2nd in Middlesex. Our senior 1st team placed 4th and our U16’s placed 5th.  We are so proud to be only Middlesex school of three to have a team in each age group in the finals. Congratulations to all those who played.

Lacrosse

U12/U13 TRI-COUNTY LACROSSE TOURNAMENT

On Saturday 1st March, LEH hosted the U12 and U13 A and B Tri-County Lacrosse Tournament; the last tournament of the season before the National Schools’ competitions begin. It was a fantastic day with lots of support, and the players across all teams fought hard, wearing their LEH shirts with pride. The U12 A and B team experienced their first lacrosse tournament for LEH. The U12As faced some tough opposition, but played some lovely lacrosse, scoring some fantastic team goals, showing all that they have learned this season. The U12B team fought hard for every ground ball, and played some great defence, finishing the tournament as runners-up. The U13A team had mixture of results, but started and finished well, with strong performances and convincing score lines against both St James’s and Walthamstow Hall. The U13B team had a great day, winning all their matches and at the end of the day being crowned Tri County Lacrosse Champions. Well done to everyone who played and good luck to the U13A team at their National Schools’ Lacrosse tournament next week.

Following the Tri-County Tournament that we hosted on Saturday, we then played a fixture against St Catherine’s Bramley in preparation for the upcoming National Schools’ Lacrosse Tournaments. All the teams participating at Nationals played, with both sides using this fixture as an opportunity to play out different scenarios that they may be faced with at the competition. It was an extremely useful exercise, with our players having the ability to practise all they have been working on in preparation for the tournament against a new and competitive opposition. Well done to everyone that played, and good luck to all the teams competing at Nationals.

Cricket

The U15 cricket team took part in the Richmond Borough Indoor Cricket Competition on Thursday. The team showed some excellent bowling with lighter ball out and in swinging. With the bat, the team were aggressive but controlled. With the indoor scoring rules, the team looked to strike the ball hard and long. The team went undefeated throughout the round-robin competition, winning the tournament overall. Well done to the team on a fantastic achievement.
