Despite Storm Bert and the wet and cold weather this week, we have managed to play our various sports and keep many students engaged. Our brilliant cross-country runners continued to have success at the Borough event last Friday and well done to all our students on their performances in their various sports!
Cross-Country
Richmond Borough Cross-Country 2024
Our Cross-Country team travelled the short distance to Bushy Park last Friday afternoon to compete in the annual Borough Cross-Country Championships. Our Thirds team ran fantastically and dominated the field with four of the team finishing inside the top 10, and comfortably winning the team event overall. Congratulations to Alice B who finished 2nd.
Our Lower 4, Upper 4, Lower 5 and Upper 5 pupils demonstrated their determination and speed over a tough fast course. Both teams finished a fantastic 2nd place. Congratulations to Harriet who finished 6th and Eloise who finished 8th in the Year 8 and 9 race against tough competition.
Congratulations to Isla who finished 4th and Holly who finished 7th in the Year 10 and 11 race, with another year in the age group, we look forward to seeing them progress.
Well done to all students who raced, it was a fantastic day of running!
Netball
U14s V St Paul’s Girls’ School
On Tuesday, the U14s A, B, C, D/E team took to the netball courts during their training session to play St Paul’s Girls’ School. All teams put out strong performances, showcasing all the hard work they have put in over the last term, resulting in wins for all four LEH teams. A special mention to the U14 D/E team who won their match 23-5, an amazing game and display of the depth and talent all teams that LEH have. Well done also to the player of the matches from each game, Emily, Josephine, Tara, Saachi, Adela and Marina.
U16A v The Laytmer School – ‘Sisters ‘n’ Sport’ Competition
Our U16A team travelled to North London for the last 16 round of the ‘Sisters ‘n’ Sport’ competition. After the long journey, the team had a tough start in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the teams grit and determination shone through and the hard work they put into training started to pay off. Excellent shooting from Sophie in the second quarter, and great turn overs in defence, put the team in front by four at half time. Once in front, the team never looked back and extended their lead into the 3rd and 4th quarters. The team displayed fantastic teamwork and resilience to win the game by 12 goals! Congratulations to Players of the Match pupils Sophie and Lara. We look forward to seeing how they get on in the quarter final!
Lacrosse
Despite the storm, on Saturday our lacrosse fixtures against St Paul’s School went ahead, with teams from every age group representing LEH. Our U12 teams were undefeated, and the A team had a great performance, with the players moving the ball well, practicing everything they’ve learnt so far and finishing the game with a convincing win.
There were a variety of results across the age groups, but all teams fought hard, wearing their LEH shirts with pride. The matches were all held to very close scores; with only a couple of goals difference, which provides a good platform to build on before our last fixtures of the term. This is especially true for the Senior Teams, who will be able to draw on and learn from these close games as they head into their tri-county tournament next week.
Overall, it was a competitive fixture, so well done to everyone who played.
