Sports Round Up 28 March

It has been a fantastic end to a busy term of sport. We have had a variety of sports happening with some fantastic results. Our students have also enjoyed some fun Games sessions in the sun which has been great fun!

Netball

After securing a victory in the County round and finishing second in the Regional round of the National Schools competition, the U14s made the journey to Sheffield on Friday night in preparation for the National Schools Finals on Saturday, March 22nd. The team approached the finals with a strong mindset, determined to give their all on the court. They finished the day with three wins and five narrow losses, proving that they could not be underestimated. This performance earned them 5th place in their pool and a Top 10 finish overall in the country. This remarkable achievement highlights the hard work and dedication the team has put in over the past two terms, as well as throughout their two and a half years of senior school netball. Every player performed exceptionally well, and they should be incredibly proud of their effort and success. We look forward to watching their future progress in the years ahead.  Thank you to the parents for their support in Sheffield as well, it was greatly appreciated by all.

The U12 A and B teams played in the Richmond Borough Netball Tournament on Wednesday morning, marking a fantastic conclusion to their first year of netball at LEH Senior School. Both teams played exceptionally well, showcasing some brilliant passages of play throughout the morning. Demonstrating their consistency, the A team secured 1st place in the Cup competition, while the B team clinched the win in the Plate competition. A huge congratulations to all the players involved - we look forward to watching their continued progress in Year 8 Netball next year. Well done to both teams!

Indoor Cricket

Last Friday, our U15 indoor cricket team competed in the Middlesex County Finals. The team made it through to the final where they played Godolphin and Latymer School. We narrowly lost the game by eight runs and finished as Runners Up overall. Well done to the team on a great success.

Lacrosse

Last Saturday we hosted the Scotland Lacrosse Women's National Team, their final training weekend in preparation for the upcoming Home Internationals tournament.  Whilst they were here, they held a fantastic clinic for some of our lacrosse athletes across the year groups. Our pupils got a chance to mix with the stars, partnering up with a Scotland player each to develop their stick skills, before splitting into groups to work on winning possession. The session concluded with taking/facing some shots at/from the National team squad. After the clinic the pupils were able to watch Scotland train and see close-up the speed of ball movement and athleticism at the top level.

Fencing

Public Schools’ Fencing Championships 2025: Lee Valley Athletics Centre

Thirteen of our Fencing Squad took part in this year’s highly prestigious Public Schools’ Fencing Championships alongside 101 other schools from the length and breadth of the UK.  The fantastic results were as follows:

Tuesday 18th March 2025

Girls’ Mount-Haes Foil

Ninety-two competitors took part. Sissi, Lower 4, performed magnificently on day one of the championships and came in with an impressive podium 3rd place!  On her first outing to PSFC, Mali (Thirds) ranked 44th in the competition, against a difficult field of much older and experienced competitors.

Wednesday 19th March 2025

Girls' Junior Epée

On the second day of competition, 72 competitors took part.  Four of our pupils competed in two gruelling poules, with Chloe and Audrey making it beyond, through to the dead elimination rounds.  Congratulations to Audrey making it through to the last 32 in the competition!

Girls' Mount-Haes Epée

Eighty-one competitors took part in this event.  Our eight entrants competed in the first two poules and an impressive four fencers into the dead elimination rounds and Eliana making it to the competition Semi-Finals and came in with an impressive podium Third place!

We had some great placings for all our students and well done to all who competed in the different events.  Overall, these are fantastic results as this is only our third major fencing competition since the pandemic and this is the first time some of these fencers have officially competed against other schools, many of whom fielded seasoned fencers and many with national rankings, Team GBR representation, and older and taller!  Special mention to Sissi and Eliana who also represent British Fencing Team GBR in international competitions.

Coaches, Antonio Frulio and James Roberts, referees Garrick So and Leo Morgan, and Miss Wright and our driver for the day, Mr. Cousins are so proud of what they all achieved on the piste last week!  Congratulations and well done to the whole squad!
