Sports Round Up 13th June

It’s been a busy and successful week of sport at LEH! Our U13 cricket teams impressed across multiple fixtures, with standout performances helping secure a place in the Middlesex Schools final and the Borough Crown respectively. On the tennis courts, pupils showed great determination and skill in both league and friendly matches with nail-biting finishes and convincing wins. Meanwhile, our athletes shone at two exciting meets, with several event wins and strong team performances across the board.

Cricket

On Monday, our U13 hardball team competed against Latymer Upper School in the Middlesex Schools U13 competition semi final. The team won the toss and elected to bat on a nice flat strip. Rhythm G had a special innings, opening the batting and hitting 97 runs from 65 balls. Aahna P and Lara N had partnered Rhythm through the innings. With a score of 193 to defend, the team took the ball and went to work. Elsa M, Tara L (debut), Anoushka B and Caroline M each took two wickets stopping Latymer Upper at 92 all out.

Well done to the team who will now play in the final against an opponent yet to be announced.

The U13B softball team played a friendly fixture against Surbiton High School on Wednesday. Despite not winning the fixture, the team used it as a learning opportunity and tuning up before their Borough tournament. The girls bowled with enthusiasm and challenged some very good Surbiton High batters. The team learned a great deal in setting up a field to predict and nullify the batters opportunity. On the batting front, the team learnt to take every opportunity to get a run and communicating when to run. Well done to all!

The U13 softball team took part in the U13 Borough Tournament on Thursday winning the Borough Crown! The team played with solid bowling, batting and fielding. They kept the opposition to low totals with accurate bowling and energetic fielding. The team scored some smashing totals with the bat. However, the opposition did give our team some tricky games with some narrow wins. This showed the LEH team were up to handling the pressure. The team saved the best performances until last, with Lara N hitting nine sixes in the semi-final and the final, leading the team with her bat and bowling. Elsa M was brilliant in her captaincy and organising the team in the field and managing who bowled and who batted. The team played so well throughout the tournament, earning the win in the final against Waldegrave. Well done to the team on a great success!

Tennis

On Tuesday, our Year 7&8 Team 1 for Division 2 played in a league match against Ada Lovelace School. The players played some competitive singles and doubles matches, demonstrating strong ability against their opposition. Sadly, despite take one of the singles games to a tie break, we lost the match. Well done to Amelia, Arianna, Mahzala and Aurelia on some great tennis.

On Thursday, we had a friendly tennis fixture against Godolphin & Latymer School with our Thirds, Lower 4 and Upper 4 players. It was a great set-up of matches for the players and all had a great time, honing their skills and enjoying strong competition. We had a mixture of results but all played very well and enjoyed their tennis.

On Thursday our 9 &10 Division 2, A and B league teams and our 7&8 Division 2 A league team played against St Benedicts School. The 7&8 team had a nail-biting finish after the singles and doubles ended in three matches each. This then took us into a shoot-out. Unfortunately, we lost 10-7 but there were some fantastic rallies played. Congratulations to Lara, Arianna, Aurelia and Aanya.

Both our 9&10 teams won convincingly not dropping a match. They dominated from the start demonstrating some fantastic tennis. Congratulations to Camilla, Sophie, Cecilia, Emily, Emily Josephine, Aishnavi and Marina.

Athletics

We hosted our first athletics meeting at St Mary's University on Saturday along with Hampton Boys School. The meet consisted of a variety of track and field events with the aim of getting as many students as possible involved in athletics. We had some excellent performances with wins for our Thirds: Olivia (200m), Sophie (200m B) and Sophia (Long Jump B); and our Lower 4s: Shakti (100m B), Esme (800m B), Sophie (Long Jump B), Maya (High Jump), Eloise (Discus B). Both our Thirds and Lower 4 teams finished 2nd overall. Well done to all pupils who took part, it was a fantastic morning of athletics with some brilliant performances from our athletes.

Our Upper 4 and Lower 5 athletes travelled to Claremont Fan School for a friendly track meet on Tuesday. It was an excellent opportunity for our athletes to have a good race against some strong competition in preparation for our fixtures next week. There were some excellent performances from Dotty and Annabelle in the hurdles, Izzy in the 100m and Rosie and Hollie in the 300m. Our relays teams were also successful. Well done to all athletes who competed.

Good luck to both our Junior and Inter teams taking part in the Regional Track & Field competition next week!
