On Tuesday 24th June, six of us from Upper Four were given the opportunity to take part in the Institute of Engineering Faraday Challenge national final at University College Birmingham, which we had qualified for in February. Mikaila N, Upper 4 tells us about the day:
"In total, over 10,000 students, 1,749 teams, and 740 schools participated across the UK, so making it to one of the final six was a huge success in itself!
The day itself was extremely past paced- we had a whole day to develop, model, and present an engineering solution to a real-life situation. That being a prototype toy for a small nursery. The challenge was to work as a team and be creative. It was demanding and highly challenging, however we all had fun.
In the end, we came up with a match the shapes (animals) toy idea and after pitching our idea to the judges we were very pleased to take home second place - one point behind the winners! It was extremely close, and we were delighted with our effort.
Overall, it was an experience to remember, working to tight deadlines with our team, seeing our ideas come to life, and presenting to the judges. We left feeling inspired and proud of ourselves, grateful for the opportunity and pondering what to spend our giant cheque for £250 on…"
Huge Kudos to all of the team comprising, Mikaila N, Gece B, Emmie D, Anika L, Brishelle M, and Saachi Narula.
