Over the weekend of 22nd– 23rd September, pupils and parents of LEH School and Hampton School Boat Clubs undertook an 80 mile row down the Thames in aid of Shooting Star Chase, who provide support for children with life limiting conditions. The weekend started bright and early at Radley, near Oxford, with 18 crews taking to the water for the first leg down to Henley on Thames. Early the following day, those same crews left Henley for the second leg down to Hampton.

Over the course of the weekend the crews negotiated 28 locks, braved some torrential rain and the cold through both daylight and darkness, and endured blistered hands and stiff muscles to complete the row and help raise over £64,000 to date, which will go towards providing care for 700 families in the local area. They were supported in this effort by volunteers from the Hampton Holles Boat Clubs Association, who went above and beyond to man the locks, and provide catering and logistical support.

Georgina Brookes from Shooting Star Chase commented:

"We are delighted that Hampton and LEH Schools once again took on this epic challenge in support of Shooting Star Chase. Rowing through driving rain and strong winds throughout the weekend, they should feel very proud of their accomplishment. Raising an amazing £60,000 will make a significant difference to our charity. Thank you!"

Antony Smith, Head of LEH Rowing commented:

“Although a worse September weekend couldn’t have been picked to complete the row, the team of rowers, support crew and coaches persevered with admirable determination and humour.  All the crews dug deep and keep pushing hard, in what were very challenging conditions. Congratulations to everyone that completed the impressive row and a huge thank you to all of the support teams. A special mention to Colin, Stu and AJ; without their help and organisation the event wouldn’t have been possible”

Thank you to all students, parents and staff who participated and supported this amazing fundraising challenge.
