Lower 4 French Trip to Côte d’Opale

Thirty-six Lower 4 pupils attended the extremely enjoyable trip to the Opal Coast. Sights included Le Touquet, an aquarium in Boulogne-sur-Mer, a local boulangerie, Bagatelle Theme Park and even a miniature village of Saint Joseph warped back in time. Some of our pupils share their experiences:

"Last Tuesday morning we embarked on a trip to Côte d’Opale, we left school bright and early before others woke up. After a three-hour coach journey full of laughter and chatting we arrived at the ferry port. Everyone was really excited to take the ferry since it was many people’s first time. After that we drove to Le Touquet which was next to the beach, even though it was windy it didn’t stop us from running towards the sand . We explored the pretty streets and sweet treats that many shops offered then we took a fun train tour in French around the town.

On the second day we visited Parc Bagatelle theme park. My favourite ride was the 'Gas Express' which was super-fast and gave me lots of adrenaline, and the 'River Splash', where we loved getting soaked especially in the hot weather . On day three we went to an ancient bakery where we made our own bread in a hundred-year-old oven. Bruno the baker explained his livelihood and the French tradition to us in French. Afterwards we visited Europe’s biggest aquarium, where we saw amazing sea creatures and a sea lion show. On the last day we explored Saint Joseph miniature village, a village that is like stepping back into the 1900s to see how rural life in France was then. We saw old shops just as they were left! And the 'jus de pomme' they sold in the shop was heavenly. We ate plenty of baguettes, laughed a lot and made unforgettable memories with our friends. We then said goodbye to France and reflected on wonderful memories during our journey back home."  Priscilla F

"My highlight of the trip was definitely the bakery as it was really fun and interesting to see the traditional French ways of making bread and trying it for myself. It was also interesting to find out that the bakery had been around for 100 years and seeing the oven they used back then. I also bought some delicious bread to take home!" Hyunsuh K

"Every day was really fun, but my favourite part of the trip was either the theme park or the aquarium. The theme park had lots of thrilling rides, and the aquarium was the largest in Europe with over 58,000 sea creatures! On Friday before we left, we visited a miniature village, which was really interesting because you could see some of the village’s history. It was a great trip!" Emsley F

"On the second day of our trip, we visited Parc Bagatelle in France and had a fantastic time. The rollercoasters and water rides were thrilling and the pedalos on the lake were a relaxing treat. One of my highlights was a huge water ride where we went down a steep slope and got splashed with lots of water. The miniature farm with horses and a donkey was also very interesting and the peacocks roaming around the park added to the charm. Overall, it was a fantastic visit and we made some great memories!" Artemis K

"We did many fun, exciting and memorable activities such as making traditional French bread; visiting a miniature village; going to the largest aquarium in Europe - Nausicaa; and more. However, I think that my favourite event of the trip was the full day out at the theme park: Park Bagatelle. We had so much fun going around all the different rides, so much that some, we even got to go on five or six times. It was an extremely heart pounding and thrilling experience. Also, the baguettes were absolutely AMAZING, they were the best I had ever eaten. Overall, during the visit, I got to learn the French language in more detail and accuracy, extending my vocab and improving my accent!" Yuna K
