Lower Fifth students at LEH performed brilliantly in the prestigious National Scientific Thinking Challenge, designed by Oxford, Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol, Warwick and Southampton Universities. Impressively, 36 students scored in the top 10% nationally, with Yilan M (Lower 5) achieving an outstanding 95%, just three marks off the top score in the country.
Meanwhile, LEH welcomed students from Hampton and Reach Academy for the Royal Society of Chemistry Schools’ Analyst Competition. While we didn’t win the regional heat, congratulations go to Lower 6 students, Ursula M, Alice B, and Freya HB, who were named ‘Best in School’ for their analytical skills and teamwork. On the event, Freya commented:
"Competitors had to perform several practical tasks in order to identify contaminants in soil samples: performing titrations, precipitations, flame tests and chromatography analysis. We enjoyed working with students from other schools in order to solve the problems using both mathematical and chemistry techniques, teaching us valuable collaborative skills essential for research scientists. All of the students want to say a big thank you to LEH’s wonderful technicians who worked so hard to prepare the materials, and to all the teachers who helped support us on the day. It was a lot of fun and a great challenge, providing valuable insight into the work of an analytical chemist and inspiration for our future careers."
Huge congratulations to all our students on their remarkable achievements!
