This summer our Upper 5 German students enjoyed an Exchange trip with Ellenrieder Gymnasium school students in Konstanz, a city on Lake Constance (Bodensee), in southern Germany.
One of our Upper 5 students who participated in this year’s German Exchange summed up a wonderful trip: “I really enjoyed how we had the opportunity to experience a typical German life for a week and experience different things in contrast to our daily lives back in England."
Now in its 38th year, the Konstanz partnership offers students of German from LEH and Hampton School the opportunity to spend a week with a German family in July. They spend a morning in the Ellenrieder Gymnasium school, sampling typical lessons, and the evenings and weekends with families, offering insight into life in Germany and providing an awareness of cultural differences.
Where many schools have discontinued exchanges, we are proud to maintain such a strong and prosperous partnership. It offers students from both countries an opportunity to interact with peers, enhance their language and social skills and to forge new friendships.
This summer in Konstanz, our students took advantage of the warm weather and enjoyed swimming in Lake Constance, taking boat trips to towns on the lake and having free time to explore Konstanz itself. They also enjoyed the challenge of trying to understand native speakers and speaking everyday German.
We look forward to welcoming 41 German students and their teachers on the 8-16 October and showing them all LEH and life in the local area has to offer.
