On 27th September, the UV Geography classes travelled to London to investigate sustainability and sustainable development in the East Village, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford. Our three fundamental points to explore were the environment, housing, and services, and this trip was a very valuable experience to evaluate the effectiveness of the modern developments, and to observe a successful sustainable location. To do this, we carried out various methods of data collection, we learnt about how East Village obtained their sustainable community status. We asked locals questions to assess the residents’ own perceptions of East Village’s services. We also researched East Village’s land use, and how London’s changing demographics have affected the type of infrastructure we would expect to see. Regardless of the rain, we definitely enjoyed the trip, and a highlight was seeing the view from the London Orbital.
