L5 were treated to a day of German culture this month at London’s Goethe Institute which focuses on international cultural cooperation and the promotion of German in the UK. Our students had a tour of the extensive library and undertook a knowledge quiz in German. The Institute’s Education Coordinator then talked to them about how German could be useful in their future careers; Germany is experiencing a shortage in STEM specialists who can also speak German – posts that our LEH students could perhaps fill in the future! The day culminated in a screening of Leo Khasin’s film, Kaddish für einen Freund, which explores the themes of racism, integration, and friendship in modern-day Germany. L5 students are also taking part in this year’s German Exchange with our partner school, the Ellenrieder Gymnasium in Konstanz. The German group are staying in Hampton with their LEH and Hampton School partners this week and our L5 students will return to Konstanz next July.
