This year’s Sports Awards Evening at LEH on Friday 2nd May was a true celebration of dedication, determination, and team spirit. From team players to individual champions, the event honoured students who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to sport both within and beyond school life. Guests were treated to a truly inspirational address by double Olympic rowing champion Helen Glover OBE, who shared her remarkable journey through elite sport. From winning Gold at London 2012 and Rio 2016, to returning to international competition after becoming a mother of three, Helen’s story resonated deeply with students, staff, and families alike. A champion not only in the boat but also in life, her message of resilience and reinvention was the perfect end to a night of celebration.
Among the awards presented were the prestigious Sports Colours, recognising outstanding contribution and participation across the year. The Morrill Award also highlighted elite athletes working tirelessly outside school to achieve international standards, while several students were added to the Roll of Honour for representing their country in their sport - a remarkable achievement.
Awards for Spirit and Most Valuable Player were given across team sports, celebrating not only skill and consistency but also leadership, encouragement, and sportsmanship. Individual sports were also spotlighted, recognising those who have made a lasting impact through their performance and contribution.
Senior Cups were presented for progress, improvement, and excellence, with the evening culminating in the presentation of The Tilbury Cup - awarded to a student who has shown unwavering commitment to sport at LEH over many years, inspiring younger students and exemplifying the values of perseverance, teamwork, and passion.
