Carol Service

On 6th December, we welcomed parents and families to St James’s Church for a beautiful Christmas celebration, the Junior School Carol Service.

There was a frisson of expectation as the Church lights dimmed and a lone voice sang out the familiar “Once in Royal David’s City”. The Junior Carol Service had begun. The Choir dexterously manoeuvred their candlelit procession up the aisle to their positions, all the while singing.

The Carol Service re-told the familiar story of the arrival of Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem and of the birth of the Holy Baby Jesus. Re-told through not only words and music but, this year, with a tableau; The Angel Gabriel, Mary, Joseph, Shepherds, Wise Men, Baby Jesus and, of course, plenty of animals.

The whole school set the scene, singing ‘Mid Winter’. ‘O Holy Night’ described the visitation of the Eastern Sages. Chorus sang their song ‘Twas in the Moon of Winter-time’ beautifully, with great feeling. At the end of the service the Choir sent us on our way with a thrilling carol ‘Good Cheer’, which was especially written for the Junior Choir as few years ago. They sang a Happy Christmas to everyone.

Thank you to everyone who attended the service and to our wonderful pupils and staff who worked so hard to make it a truly special occasion. Special thanks to Mrs Yates, Miss Barnes and Mrs Frampton for preparing the music, the readers and the tableau.
