On 27th November, the 3rds took part in LEH’s first Beginners’ Model United Nations Conference. Students took on the role of diplomats from UN countries and worked in delegations for a series of team challenges. In workshops led by Lucy and Georgie from L6, the 3rds researched their countries, wrote Policy Statements and presented short speeches to the rest of their year group. We even had video guest appearances from U5’s seasoned MUN experts, where Olivia, Elizabeth, Mia and Alex demonstrated a role play of a formal conference. By the end of the afternoon, a fully-fledged debate was underway. Our new delegates came together in a simulation of a United Nations conference, where they debated their own resolutions on the issues of providing free healthcare and banning capital punishment.
The Assembly Hall was brimming with energy and enthusiasm, and the commitment shown by all delegates made the afternoon a huge success. Well done to the delegation of France, consisting of Iman, Eloise, Jessica, Alice and Rayya, who were recognised for their outstanding teamwork.
Congratulations to Saskia, Matti and Amelia who were highly commended for their excellent individual contributions to the debate.
