LEH hosted its 14th MUN Conference on the last weekend of January and it was the first time after three years where we had 130 delegates from eight different schools taking part. The weekend kicked-off on Friday 30th January, with the opening ceremony, where keynote speaker, Seema Malhotra (MP for Feltham and Heston), spoke about her impressive journey through politics and inspired students and guests alike to continue their involvement in the world of politics and international relations. Later that evening, delegates presented their policy statements in their committee rooms, and on Saturday, there was plenty of fruitful debate surrounding several pressing global issues, including International Cyber Crime, Uyghurs in China and Pandemic Prevention. It was fantastic to see how even new debaters were getting thoroughly involved in all discussions and that all delegates were developing vital skills, as well as forging new friendships amongst one another. On the final day we had the General Assembly where everyone came together to discuss the Global Recession and Climate Change, whether the International Criminal Court should be abolished and a final emergency crisis where countries were starting to sink! Without a doubt, it was certainly a day full of productive debate but also a day with lots of laughter at some of the quite radical proposals given by certain countries. All in all, the level of debate was incredible amongst all delegates, both experienced and new, and as Secretary General, I can proudly say, on behalf of all the Secretariat and Chairs, this LEHMUN Conference was a huge success.
