LEH Community

The Perse Coding Team Challenge’s second round was a showcase of computational prowess and collaborative spirit. Four trios, drawn from the ranks of U4, L5, and U5, engaged in a friendly yet fierce competition to solve complex coding challenges.

We are excited for the Summer Term and seeing our LEH students participating and competing in Athletics, Tennis and Cricket. We are also hoping for some sunshine!

LEH is the first UK school to take a group of students to visit the amazing Virgo Interferometer.

At the start of the Easter break, the Art History Department received some very exciting news from Art History Abroad, who run cultural travel courses in Italy and beyond for students and adults.

Over the past term, we have been learning about the artistic history of St Ives and, at the start of the Easter holidays, were able to find out for ourselves what drew so many artists to Cornwall c.1945.

The Easter break saw us run three Duke of Edinburgh expeditions: Training and practice expeditions for Gold sea kayaking and walking in Pembrokeshire and the Brecon Beacons and a qualifying walking expedition for our silver participants. 

Over the Easter holidays, the J15, J16, and Senior rowing squads went on a nine-day rowing camp to Sabaudia in Italy.

During the Easter holidays, 13 pupils went to Paris to reunite with our French exchanges after their visit to London, just 10 days before.

On Thursday 21st March 30 LEH Sixth Formers attended the Female Lead’s ‘Inspiring Careers of the Future’ event, in conjunction with GCHQ.

At the start of the Easter break, the LEH Lower and Upper Sixth History students set off for a trip to Paris to visit some sites of the French Revolution, as well as other landmarks around the city.

This term has been a whirlwind of activities and memorable highlights.

We have had another very busy and successful week of sport at LEH – our feet haven’t touched the ground!  Our pupils across the school have had a brilliant term of sport and we are really pleased with all their efforts and commitment to make it a successful season overall.

On Wednesday night, LEH hosted their first ever Classics Society Dinner with Hampton School.

We were delighted to welcome the big band from Riverdale Country School in New York. 

On Tuesday 12th March four of our L4 students competed in the second heat of the English Speaking Union’s Performing Shakespeare Competition.

Last week, Thursday 14^th March, the Mathematics Department celebrated Pi-Day.

The art of chamber music is a mysterious one.

The History of Art department have had a very exciting time recently as Mo (U6), having been selected to go through to the Articulation London Final.

On Saturday we were treated to the annual LEH and Hampton Joint Choral Society Concert.

To celebrate the start of Science Week, we had the pleasure of hosting artist Rory McCann, known for his dedication to art and wildlife conservation.

Last Thursday, I was delighted to be one of eight cadets who were selected to fly a two-seater Grob Tutor aircraft at RAF Benson, an active RAF base.

We have had another very busy week of sport at LEH with some fantastic results in various sports, highlighting our talented students!

Dr David James, LEH’s Deputy Head, was excited to attend the launch of his new book this week.

Just after Half Term, the U2s came over to the Jane Ross Theatre for their Production Week to work on ‘The Wizard of Oz’.

A few weeks ago we announced the three finalists from the Martindale Essay Competition. It gives me great pleasure to announce that this year’s winner of this competition.

In the evening on Tuesday 5th March the Art Department hosted a fascinating Art & Architecture Alumnae Talk.

The Rock, Pop & Jazz Concert is always a highlight of the school year and this year lived up to expectations.

In celebration of National Careers Week the whole school were engaged in careers-related activities this week.

A very busy week on the Netball courts with some great results!

On Tuesday night, the Spoke Art Documentary Competition hosted the Awards Ceremony for their 2024 Prize at the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art. Among the 60 films submitted this year, an impressive six L6 LEH students made the shortlist.

Anna Haugh, celebrity chef and restaurateur, delivered an inspiring lunchtime talk to students from all year groups on Monday.

On Tuesday, we went to Tonbridge School to compete in the National Spanish Debating Competition.

On Wednesday 28^th February, ten Biology students from L6 went to Royal Holloway (University of London) to learn about Rare Diseases.

LEH was one of 11 schools taking part in the annual Epsom College MUN Conference on Saturday 2nd March.

With spring around the corner, we are excited to announce this year's Arts Festival theme: ‘Wild About My World.’ The Arts Festival takes place on Friday 24 May and promises a fantastic showcase of art, music, drama, and poetry.

This week has been a busy week in the PE department and we have had much success with a variety of our teams.

At half term we took 45 students to Bardonecchia, Italy on our annual Ski Trip.

In February, some LEH Sixth Form students competed in the British Biology Olympiad.

This year we are lucky enough to have over 40 students taking part in Young Enterprise at LEH.

Well over a hundred students from LEH and Hampton School set up stalls, displayed posters and operated machinery to the edification and delight of hundreds more of their peers for this year's STEM Fair.

We have had a great week back after half term with fixtures and we also have some fantastic individual sporting success to highlight!

32 Cadets from LEH CCF were trained on the L98 A2 Cadet Rifle at RAF Northolt on the 17^th and 18^th of February.

Over three quarters of the delegates at the bustling, well-attended annual Careers Evening at the end of January were former pupils returning to LEH to talk to current students about life after School.

Cabaret Fever has come to LEH once more!

There has been a wonderful balance of exciting and calming activities this week for Children’s Mental Health Week, from our Global Play Day afternoon, Mindfulness through Movement workshops, Anti-bullying workshops and our author visit from Cath Howe.

A very busy week of sport in the run up to half term with some great performances, both individual and team. 

On February 3rd, LEHBC rowing crews participated in Hampton Head, one of the most prestigious events of the spring rowing calendar.

On Thursday February 1st, eight cadets had an amazing opportunity to fly Grob Tutors at Benson RAF base.

L4 students enjoyed a day out to explore Neasden Mandir and Southall Gurdwara with the PRE Department.

In the Junior School, we pride ourselves on an exciting enrichment programme that includes trips, workshops, guest speakers and regular competitions.

We have had another busy week of sport at LEH with some brilliant results and personal achievements as well as many students participating in their chosen sports.

This past weekend LEH hosted our 15th annual LEHMUN conference, with five other schools in attendance and 32 delegations overall. 

On Monday 29^th January the U6 Director’s Ariana & Sophie produced their performance of Buckets by Adam Barnard. 

This Wednesday, U4 French students from LEH and Hampton were treated to a French play: Le Cours d’Art.

We are delighted to announce that Mo (U6) has been selected to go through to the Articulation London Final.

Our L6 students shone at a recent tech day in Horsham dedicated to enhancing their build for the upcoming April Student Robotics Competition.

79 intrepid programmers, spanning all key stages and including eight Juniors, fearlessly embraced the Oxford University Computing Challenge (OUCC).

I was delighted to meet with representatives from the School Council this week for an update on their proposals for the year.

Monday 22nd January saw the arrival of over 60 Year 9 linguists from our ISSP partner schools. 

Tuesday evening was filled with fascinating French debate, when we attended the Regional French Debating Competition at St Paul’s Girls' School.

An action-packed week of sports events for all our athletes.

The Thirds disco was a fantastic fundraising event for the school charity, SPEAR.

LEH has joined forces with other leading schools to call for urgent action to tackle the growing mental health crisis facing schools in the UK.

A festive week for the Sports Department...

LEH CCF had the fantastic opportunity to participate in the Royal Air Squadron Trophy competition this year.

Our students have once again showcased their exceptional computational thinking abilities in the Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge. This year's competition was a resounding success, and we are thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our pupils. 

The perfect start to the Christmas season: heavenly heart-lifting music, moving words telling the story of the nativity, mince pies and mulled wine shared with friends - the Alumnae Carol Service had it all.

We've witnessed an electrifying display of skill and tenacity in the CyberFirst Girls competition, where five of our elite white-hat hacker teams stepped into the arena. And what a spectacle they gave us! 

A huge congratulations to all students who performed at the annual LEH Gymnastics display this year.

On Tuesday 14th November 2023, eight U4 LEH students attended an ISSP Science Day hosted by Hampton School.

Another successful and enjoyable day was had by all 27 enthusiastic LEH pupils, debating with great ardour, confidence and diplomacy at Benenden School's MUN Conference on Monday, 4th December.

The Friends and their merry helpers organised a fabulous array of stalls, entertainment and activities and I was delighted to see so many Junior School pupils and parents, enjoying the festivities.

LEH CCF took part in the London District Band Initiative, bringing together musicians from different contingents and services.

After a return to the 80s at Wednesday's Gym Display, we had a chilly day for South Schools Tournament taking place on frosty pitches on Thursday.

LEH Cadets made history, being the first from the contingent to be invited on an Air Experience Flight!

Hollywood hit LEH on Wednesday with our spectacular Night at the Movies Concert!!

A very busy week on the Netball courts...

In mid-November, students in the U4 visited the First World War battlefields in Belgium and France.  We have just started learning about the First World War in our history lessons, so we were excited to see some famous sites associated to the war, famous for its futility and brutality.

This week the L6 Life Advice session was led by Drama and Eco Squad representatives to begin a conversation on sustainable period products.

LEH Foshan has been open to pupils since September 2020, but until this term, there was no opportunity to celebrate the opening of this fabulous new school.

On Friday the 17th of November, LEH had the privilege of hosting students from three local schools for a taster session of what a Model United Nations conference would look like, under the ISSP (Independent State School Partnership) programme.

A busy week in the Sports Dept which saw action in Lacrosse, Netball, Badminton and Cross Country. 

This Remembrance Day, Saturday 11th November, 27 cadets and three staff members from our LEH CCF contingent travelled to Central London to participate in the annual Lord Mayor’s Show.

From the 2nd -5th November, U5 History students had the great opportunity to visit Berlin to enrich our knowledge of the Cold War and the Rise of the Nazi Party, core elements of our GCSE course.

During the October half term, L6 and U6 Psychology students visited the city of Vienna.

During Autumn half term, a group of Upper Fifth Spanish students travelled to the city of Salamanca to improve our understanding of Spanish language and culture.

Huge congratulations to everyone for two extraordinary Winter Concerts over the weekend. 

The CCF not only offers amazing experiences at LEH  but also benefits from being part of an organisation with over 40,000 cadets. 

Each half term we choose one of our school values to put under the spotlight, and during Monday’s assembly I asked the girls to think about what it means to engage in school life.

In early October, our entire new Thirds Year group headed to PGL Liddington for a fun packed few days of team building and making new friends.

On 21^st-28^th October, nine LEH and seven Hampton Sixth Form Spanish students travelled to the beautiful city of Granada for a week of work experience placements, cultural visits and language lessons.

Black History Month at LEH this year has been extremely successful, with several brand new events being widely attended by pupils and staff.

The Independent/State Schools Partnership (ISSP), is a vibrant educational consortium that nurtures collaboration between students and teachers from Hampton, Lady Eleanor Holles (LEH), and five local state secondary schools: Hampton High, Hollyfield School, Orleans Park School, Teddington School, and Tolworth Girls' School.

After a restful half term break, we are back in the swing of things with football and trampolining.

This October we were joined by a lively group of 35 German students from our partner school, the Ellenrieder Gymnasium in Konstanz, Germany.

I am still smiling to myself after the fabulous and uplifting U1E ‘Happiness’ themed assembly this morning.

Our Service Volunteer Lower Sixth students hosted an event for residents from local care homes at LEH this week. Guests were joined by pupils in the Thirds and enjoyed a quiz and some musical performances.

Leading into the half term break we have continued to have some great matches across our sports, with our LEH students demonstrating their skills and achieving some brilliant successes.

We are delighted to share a brand new publication, The Holles Economist, produced by students across LEH who take part in Economics Club.

Wearing his trademark braces, ZZ Top beard, and ready smile, Andy Brittain, who is a Physics teacher at LEH, as well as coordinator of our award-winning STEM programme, cuts a striking figure in his laboratory, with his eyes twinkling with fun.

That ability to reflect, to take stock, as well as to explore new experiences, was in evidence during our annual Wellbeing Day, which took place in the last vestiges of the summer.

We have had an exceptionally busy week of sport at LEH. Our netball, lacrosse, badminton, swimmers and rowers have all had some great competitions and performed very well across all the sports.

Mr. Lawley's U4 computer science class received a pleasant surprise during their Cyber Security lesson.

21 LEH pupils, representing the delegations of Belarus, Ukraine, Gabon, Syria, Israel, and Syria took part in the annual Reigate Grammar MUN Conference on Saturday 7th October.

L2 returned from their PGL trip, having spent three magical days conquering their fears, playing with friends, exploring the great outdoors and enjoying what can only be described as a giant sleepover!

The years simply fell away, and the memories flooded back, as lifelong LEH friends met up once again for a sunshine filled Alumnae Reunion this weekend.

October is Black History Month and on Monday the Senior School Inclusion reps visited the Junior School to lead a Black History Month assembly on this year's theme, ‘Before Windrush’.

We were off timetable on Wednesday 27th September to take part in a multimedia workshop with Nicole Line.

L5 were treated to a day of German culture this month at London’s Goethe Institute.

A busy week in the Sports Dept with the preliminaries for the Middlesex County Netball competition taking place. 

On Saturday the 30^th of September, LEH CCF braved the wilds of Hankley training ground; 19 Senior Cadets had prepared fieldcraft lessons for over 40 newer recruits.

Welcome to this week’s Friday roundup and what a busy week it has been!

While many of us were learning how to bake banana bread, Isabel started writing this novel during lockdown in 2020 when she was just 12 years old and she has been instrumental in driving the process through from page to publication.

We started the week with a great weekend at the Condover Hall netball tournament. 

With the crescendo of July’s Celebration of the Year still ringing in their ears, 13 excited LEH U6, alongside Ms Shum, Miss Mercer and a group of Hampton pupils and staff, leapt onto a coach bound for Heathrow and the start of an adventure of a lifetime.

Our A level Computer Science class recently took part in a webinar hosted by NextTechGirls.com (organised by Computer Science teacher Mr. Tovell). Speakers included young professionals working in the tech sector, including Spotify and other known brands.

It feels like Autumn has arrived just in time to coincide with our first residential trip of the year.

It was great to see our new Thirds heading out for their first fixtures representing LEH this week.

Rowers from LEH and Hampton School pull together to raise over £80,000 for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices.

This summer we were fortunate to be able to travel to South Africa on the 2023 Netball Tour. A large group of 31 students ranging across four years all embarked on one of the most action-packed and enjoyable trips LEH has to offer.

The five day trip to Geneva was both a fun-filled and educational experience.

The Sporting calendar has kicked off with a preseason tournament.

In July the Geography Department took students from L5-L6 to the beautiful islands of the Azores. 

It was truly the most fantastic opportunity to go on a one-week LEH CCF camp over the summer holidays at RAF Odiham, home of the Chinook.

Congratulations to all our GSCE pupils today who have achieved excellent results in their public exams. 

Lady Eleanor Holles (LEH) students are celebrating A level success today across 21 different subjects.

At the end of the school year we said goodbye to Mrs Hanbury. And what a goodbye it has been!

The hallowed turf of Twickenham has never seen a more stylish array of guests, as the home of rugby was transformed into a glittering speakeasy club for LEH's Great Big Bursary Ball last week.

It has been a very busy but successful term for sport this summer and here is our final Weekly Sports Highlights for 2022-2023.

U2 have been thinking about the value of money in ‘My Money week’ and put this into practice last week for the Charity Fayre.

It was wonderful to see so many parents joining us for our Sports Day on 22nd June and see the girls enjoying themselves, competing hard and supporting each other in their endeavours.

Enrichment Week has once again been a roaring success, with all students in Middle School enjoying a week off their normal timetable.

In the penultimate week of the term, cricket and athletics fixtures continue.

This Sunday marked the second time LEH cadets went gliding within 10 days!  

On Friday 23^rd June, the U4 set off on a trip to the Battlefields in France and Belgium.

Heather Hanbury, Head Mistress at LEH has been crowned Headteacher of the Year (Independent). She was presented with her prize by TV star James Nesbitt.

We held our annual sports day on Wednesday and thankfully the rain stayed away! All four houses had fantastic representation from across the year groups and the students appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves!

On Monday the 19th of June the two L6 Art History classes had an amazing time exploring the Inventing Modern Art at the National Gallery during a sunny morning in London.

There was so much excitement in the Junior School last week as Form 1 enjoyed a very entertaining visit from the author and illustrator Laura Ellen Anderson.

As part of celebrating Clean Air Day on Friday 16th June, a thoroughly informative assembly, which was led by Charlie and Connor from the Royal Parks.

A week of Cricket and Tennis matches in the sunshine. 

I hope that everyone who joined us for the Junior School Arts Festival had a wonderful time.

In this week’s Spotlight on… series, we speak to Mrs Lenox-Smith, a teacher of Biology who had a twenty-year career in the pharmaceutical industry before turning her talent – and garden tools – to teaching.

On Saturday 3^rd June several Lower 2 & Upper 2 swim squad members qualified to represent the school in the National IAPS Finals.

Mrs Deverson has been part of the LEH Junior School family for almost twenty years. Here we find out what sparked her passion for English, how she approaches her teaching, and why she loves stories with strong characters. 

Between Friday 26^th May and Sunday 28^th May, the LEH rowing squads took to the water for the National Schools Regatta.

Alex MacKeith is a man of many talents - Classics teacher by day, writer by night and musical comedian at the weekends. Running through it all is his passion for teaching and education.

U2 were busy last week developing their cycling skills and building confidence when cycling on the roads as part of the Richmond Borough Bikeability scheme.

Our U2 pupils were so excited to finally head off on their eagerly awaited residential trip to the Isle of Wight last week.

On Monday, 22nd May, L2 spent the whole day over the bridge at LEH Senior School.

Many congratulations to Elysia Sanders, Class of 2022, for winning a prestigious award from the Royal Geographic Society in recognition of her outstanding A level course work.

The Junior School Gardening Club has been busy this half term.

A busy week in PE this week practising Athletics ahead of Sports Day.

LEH swimmers really stepped up to the challenge at the World School Games Swimming Championships last weekend.

Finally, three years later than planned, the U4/L5 and Hampton High students hosted 'Lady Malcolm's Ball', LEH's third Write the Girl play.

The National Museum of Computing Museum is home to an impressive collection of computing hardware and software that chronicles the history of computing from its earliest days to the modern era.

The Sixth Form History and Politics trip to the Houses of Parliament and Supreme Court was a fantastic day that gave us a deeper insight into our studies, seeing the institutions that are crucial to the UK political system.

Over the last fortnight, the Lower Sixth have been lucky enough to partake in a clay workshop run by Kate Brett, a ceramics artist.

The optimistically named Midsummer Concert was a succession of chiselled gems.

F1H delivered a super ‘Space Race’ themed assembly, showcasing some very impressive acting skills as well as singing, dancing and fabulous costumes!

On Friday, 5th May F1 attended a concert at St James's Church, Hampton to see and hear a concert played on Baroque instruments performed by Endelienta Baroque Orchestra.

The Junior School Eco Squad were joined by Senior School Duke of Edinburgh participants to plant lots of trees at LEH.

Celebrating the Coronation at LEH Juniors with a themed Mufti day and a special Family Assembly. 

Lower 2 had a wonderful day at RHS Garden Wisley on Wednesday, 3rd May.

This term in Music our U2 girls have been learning about cyclic patterns focusing on Gamelan, the traditional orchestral music of Indonesia.

On Wednesday 3^rd May, six U2 girls took part in the English Schools Swimming Association qualifiers

The LEH musicians staged the most mesmerising Summer Spectacular Concert on May 4th.

Despite the weather being less than sunny, we are moving into the Summer Term with Tennis and Athletics. 

Each year Lower Sixth students from LEH and Hampton School, who have been chosen for leadership roles in Sixth Form, join together for a weekend developing their leadership skills to prepare them for their new roles.

The Junior School girls have settled well into the summer term sports even though the weather hasn’t always been kind.

F1 pupils had a great day out at Winchester Science Centre.

On Friday 21^st April we were delighted to host our annual Sports Awards Dinner for the U5 to U6 students.

This week was the start of our Tennis Middlesex League match campaign.

It takes a brave person to stand up in front of an audience and admit to all the things they’ve failed at in life, but that’s exactly what Head Mistress Heather Hanbury did in her Remarkable Women Lecture this week.

U6 student Nida is in pole position for their dream job after completing their first weekend as a fully-fledged motorsport engineer for Evans GP.

Last term the Eco Squad came up with the idea of painting murals in the school to remind the children of some key environmental issues.

Teachers and pupils at Lady Eleanor Holles have helped scientists design and test an exciting new research project.

During the Easter holidays, GCSE and A level LEH Classicists travelled to Greece to explore important sites in the Ancient Greek world. 

This years Sixth Form Politics trip to Washington DC was an unforgettable experience, which brought our study of the US political system to life.

During the Easter holidays, our L5 French students travelled to Paris for the return leg of the French exchange with our host school, Notre Dame-Sion. 

Form 1 pupils enjoyed their trip to Brentford's Water and Steam Museum.

U2 played their last ever netball matches in the Junior School whilst the running club had a blustery trip to Bushy Park.

It was amazing to be a part of such an occasion and to see how others had interpreted the remit, delivering fantastic and innovative creations.

A busy week to end the Netball and Lacrosse 2022-2023 season whilst the rowing season gets underway.

Four students participated in the country's largest MUN conference over the weekend, Haileybury MUN 2023 representing Peru.

The Chamber Concert was another civilised and high-quality evening of music, showcasing the talents of our scholars and exhibitioners, as well as some guest players.

Recognising and Celebrating Entrepreneurial Spirit in Young Women.

The theme for this year's International Women's Day was embracing equity and the L6 Creative Directors planned a full week of activities, both serious and fun to help explain what this means.

Last week was a Science themed week in the Junior School in celebration of British Science Week with different workshops and activities to celebrate all things science.

It has been an exciting week in PE with our Netball Fun Night, Super Shooter competition and another football fixture.

We enjoyed our last Family Assembly of the term on Friday 17th March, with a fabulous Shakespeare themed performance from L2H.

The last LEH Ski trip took place in February 2020 so pupils were extremely excited to see the trip back on the schedule in 2023.

A mega week for LEH Sport with Lacrosse Nationals and County tournaments for Netball as well as Fencing Championships and the Bath Cup and Borough tournaments in Swimming.

A LEH Sixth Form student has won a coveted award that celebrates her contribution to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

It has been an extremely busy week in PE with our house swimming galas and fixtures.

L2E put on a highly entertaining Tudor themed assembly.

On Tuesday 7th March, the Young Shakespeare Company treated L2 and U2 to an entertaining workshop on Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.

Last week we celebrated World Book Day with a week of events starting with a series of Murder Mystery events.

The girls have been loving their new orienteering sessions where they have been developing their teamwork and problem-solving skills.

17 LEH pupils, representing the delegations of Jordan, UAE, Cuba and USA, took part in the Epsom College MUN Conference on Saturday 4th March.

On Monday 20th February, our cast of 48 U2 students entered the Jane Ross Theatre for the first time, armed with their scripts for ‘The Greatest Show’ and full of anticipation.

Self-confessed art addict Kate Bryan gave a brilliant, insightful, and uplifting Remarkable Women Lecture at LEH this week, followed by a lively Q&A, which left the audience enthused and wanting more.

Our students dazzled both the judges and audience in their extracts from The Taming of the Shrew and Romeo & Juliet.

On the afternoon of Wednesday 1st March, seven intrepid Classicists set off to Westminster school for the annual London Greek and Latin Reading Competition.

Three L6 art historians attended a full-day workshop titled ‘Gauguin: Artist and Rebel’ at The Courtauld Institute of Art during February half term.

Nine Lower Sixth biologists headed to the Royal Holloway (RH), University of London to take part in International Rare Disease Day. A rare disease is defined as one which affects fewer than 1 in 2,000 people; most rare diseases are genetic. 

One of the most exciting things that occurred was the cultural mufti during LEH’s inaugural Culture day organised by L6 Inclusion Champions.

There was an explosion (not literally!) of activity as students across the year groups set up their stands for the LEH STEM Fair.

This year, I have had the amazing opportunity to be a part of the cast of our fantastic school play, The Welkin.

Lower 2 enjoyed a few very informative and fun workshops at Hampton Court Palace. 

It has been a great 1^st week of term with the girls enjoying some new curriculum activities of orienteering and badminton in their PE lessons.

On Thursday 23rd February L6 Drama students travelled to the Park theatre in Finsbury Park to watch a performance of The Beach House written by Jo Harper and directed by Bethany Pitts.

It has been a busy start to the second half of term for our lacrosse and netball players.

It has been an exceptionally busy week in PE with so much success to celebrate.

Year after year, the standard of performance in the LEH Music Competition is dazzling and it’s wonderful to hear such marvellously assured performances.

LEH Art historians travelled to Westminster School to attend Katy Hessel’s remarkable talk about her book ‘The Story of Art Without Men’.

It has been a busy past week with many brilliant students participating in various sports activities. Please read on to see what they have been up to.

It has been a fantastic week in PE this week with our first netball fixtures of 2023.

We had a bumper turnout of our amazing alumnae at last month’s busy Careers Evening, where three quarters of all the delegates were former LEH students.

LEH hosted its 14th MUN Conference on the last weekend of January and it was the first time after three years where we had 130 delegates from eight different schools taking part.

It was great to be playing lacrosse again after the last few weeks of frozen pitches.

Every class was able to take an active part in learning some of the ways to stay safe when online during our online safety workshops.

Around 30 schools took part in the Central London French Debating Competition this week. 

Unfortunately, due to the freezing weather we have had, many fixtures were cancelled or postponed in the past week.

U2E performed a wonderful family assembly, based on the book Giraffe’s Can’t Dance.

U6 pupil Polina represented LEH at a regional Articulation heat held at the Courtauld Institute of Art.

It has been a chilly start to sport in 2023.

Our F1 girls have started their brass workshops. 

Holles Singers past and present took to the stage in December for a triumphant celebration of LEH Music in the Holles Forever! concert.

It has been exceptionally busy in PE this week with lots of fun Christmas festivities, a swimming gala and the Gym and Dance Display.

On Friday 9th December, we celebrated the season of Advent with a beautiful Carol Service at St James’ Church.

Nearly 350 students took part in the annual Gymnastics Display this year. 

We have had another busy week of fabulous sport at LEH.

LEH School hosted the U18 South Schools Lacrosse Tournament on Thursday.

The Governors of Lady Eleanor Holles School (LEH) are pleased to announce that Rowena Cole has been appointed as the School’s next Head Mistress. 

The L6 Art historians thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the National Gallery.

On Tuesday 29th November we held our annual House Film Festival, a red-carpet event with four incredible premieres to watch.

There was a buzz in the air and Christmas songs in the background at the Charity Christmas Fair.

The legendary Winter Concerts roared back to LEH last week, with a cornucopia of thrilling and exhilarating repertoire.

U1H presented their history of film-making in this country in their Family Assembly last week.

We were honoured to represent LEH students in front of Headteachers from such a wide array of independent and state girls’ schools.

The LEH spirit of fortitude, determination and poise was on display in buckets at the Girl's School Association Conference in London this week with its Future Female theme.

A great week of sport with fantastic teamwork on display. 

The Friends of LEH Christmas Bazaar was a great success.

It has been a busy week in the pool and on the netball courts.

In their study of philosophy, U2 had a visit from our resident philosopher to consider the concept of law and justice in a newly formed society. 

In school we have been celebrating Anti-Bullying Week with a special ‘Reach Out’ themed assembly.

A busy week of Netball and Lacrosse as well as Fencing.

We were very fortunate to have been invited by the Royal Society to a mock Select Committee at the Houses of Parliament.

On Saturday, 12^thof November, 30 Cadets proudly marched among 133 floats at the Lord Mayor’s show.

Despite the wet weather, we have persevered in PE and had another busy week.

Pupils enjoyed some cross-curricular learning by participating in a Diwali Dance Workshop.

Mrs Yates and U2 pupils Rose, Ellie, Ishaani and Tanvi led a poignant Remembrance Day assembly.

A busy week on the court, pitch and the river for LEH Sport and Rowing.

During half term, a handful of Sixth Form art students visited St Ives in Cornwall, where we explored the rich culture of the seaside town and attended the St Ives School of Painting.

We planted a weeping beech tree in the school grounds in celebration of The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative.

After a lovely two week half term break, we were pleased to be back to playing school sport this past week.

We flew out really excited to see all of our Renaissance case studies in person!

Four LEH RAF Cadets earned their blue wings gliding qualifications.

One of the most loved (and relatively new) traditions at LEH is Wellbeing Day.

Over the last six weeks, I had the pleasure of being a member of the fabulous cast of Legally Blonde, LEH’s joint musical with Hampton School.

Form 1 have been learning about the Ancient Egyptians this term in History lessons.

On 12th October, pupils, dignitaries and colleagues came together to celebrate the launch of a pioneering Sixth Form partnership for Feltham which opened its doors in September.

Black History Month has been a huge success with our Inclusion Champions presenting an informative assembly.

We wish all our players and their families a restful and enjoyable half term and look forward to coming back in November refreshed and ready for a busy second half of the term.

U2 had a fantastic time at Butser Ancient Farm.

On 7th October we enjoyed our first Family Assembly of this academic year.

Team ExtraOARdinary talked about the resilience, perseverance and teamwork that spurred them on, as they gave an uplifting and inspiring Remarkable Women Lecture at LEH last week.

Upper 1 enjoyed a trip to Marwell Zoo as part of their Living Things and Habitats topic in Science.

We enjoyed it so much that we can’t wait for our next school trip!

It has been a superb week in PE with the first full week of extra-curricular clubs back in full swing.

U2 participated in an architecture workshop, investigating how to create structures.

We are delighted by the fantastic achievements of our GCSE pupils today, with top grades being achieved across the board.

LEH is incredibly proud to confirm the results achieved by LEH’s Class of 2022.

Our graduating class of 2022 had much to celebrate today as this year’s A level results were announced.

U4 showed their incredible creative and entrepreneurial talents in response to a challenge that required teams to create a product which would improve the sleep hygiene for 7–11-year-old children.

What a weekend of tennis for LEH.

As the cast of  Matilda stepped into M1 for their first rehearsal in February, the atmosphere was massively enthusiastic.

After months of anticipation, the 22nd of April had arrived and it was finally time for the Thirds trip to PGL in Liddington.

On 29th June, the L6 Biologists travelled down to Wakehurst, to visit the Millenium Seed Bank.

The Cubes in Space Programme offers a wonderfully unique hands-on opportunity for school students to design space-flight experiments for suborbital rocket flight, on board NASA’s sounding rocket programme with advice from research specialists.

It was very beneficial for all of us as we learnt about scale, proportion and the sculpture making process.

The Yale Spizzwinks(?) charmed and enthralled the LEH audience in an uproariously entertaining evening.

Three of our recent alumnae, now studying at university, returned to LEH last week to give current L6 pupils an insight into what student life is really like.

When actor Poppy Gilbert, Class of 2015, star of BBC ONE and Netflix, failed to get into drama school first time round, it could have spelled disaster, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

We are delighted to announce that thanks to the generous support of the LEH community we raised £50,000 for the Bursary Fund on Giving Day in June 2022.

We had a fantastic Sports Day last Friday which was not hampered by a light shower and some windy weather.

We had a great time and have many happy memories.

Exhilarating fun has been had by 15 L4 students as they performed a modern retelling of Roald Dahl’s Cinderella.

With exam season now upon us, BBC Radio Producer Sophie Ellis, Class of 2009, has been busy spreading the word about her timely new project - the latest series of Radio 1's Decompression Session.

Musician Alice Angliss, Class of 2011, who is starring in the hit West End musical SIX, takes part in a world-first in June, as the show is performed in the iconic courtyard at Hampton Court Palace.

Sustainability entrepreneur Vivienne Hay, Class of 2010, is passionaate about combating climate change. Last week in a Senior Café Talk at LEH she told pupils about an exciting breakthrough she is working on. 

In music, the U2 girls have been learning about the Gamelan: the traditional Indonesian orchestra.

It has been a fantastic week in PE full of excitement and activity.

L2H entertained the rest of the Junior School with a fabulous Jubilee themed assembly.

U1 visited Chertsey Museum to learn more about the Vikings.

This exciting outing really shows what Physics is all about - pushing ourselves to the limits and finding the journey thrilling!

The Summer Spectacular was a glorious celebration of our musicians in their last concert before exams.

LEH hosted the Borough Swim Gala, which had over 100 swimmers compete across ten schools.

We are excited to announce that LEH Junior School has been awarded Eco Schools Green Flag status.

96 LEH and Hampton School Sixth Form students  embarked on the Leadership weekend. 

It has been a fantastic first full week of the summer term in PE with the girls loving getting back into some of their favourite summer sports such as rounders, athletics and cricket.

Last Friday we hosted our first Sports Award dinner since 2019.

We enjoyed a wonderful start to the new term on Wednesday, 20th April with a special charity assembly.

We are delighted to share the findings of a recent Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) Education Quality Inspection.

L6 students from both Hampton and LEH took a trip to Southampton University for the National Student Robotics Competition 2022.

There was a real buzz of excitement at the Remarkable Women Reception on 26th March, our first alumnae event in school for two years.

The Rock, Pop and Jazz concert burst onto the scene in the Theatre on Tuesday 8 March. 

After a long awaited two years, on 23rd March we were able to put on our annual gym display performance.

The Music Scholars were out in force for their Chamber Concert, putting on a dazzling display with so many ravishing highlights!

We had great fun at the Easter Fair on the last day of term, raising funds for the school charity.

Wow, what an amazing term of PE we have had.

Science Week became Science fortnight in the Junior School this year.

What an incredible last week of term for the LEH Sport!

Alex can sing, play the guitar and write really exciting stories which he then illustrates.

It was an amazing production week with the U2.

L2 had a busy week of Geography enrichment. 

We have been so impressed with the levels of enthusiasm and dedication towards netball this year.

Gardening Club have been enjoying getting outside as the weather improves.

U2 enjoyed their citizenship morning at Holly Lodge, learning about road safety, fire safety, use of public transport and the emergency services.

Young Shakespeare Company made the play much easier to understand as Shakespeare is normally quite hard to interpret.

It has been another busy week in PE with the girls continuing to apply themselves brilliantly to all areas of the curriculum and extra-curricular.

Being part of an all-girls school means that it is paramount that women support one another.

The girls tried their hand at many different instruments including the flip-flopophone.

Melanie Ivarsson, Class of 1990, returned to LEH last week for the first time in 12 years, to deliver a dazzling and truly inspiring Goswell Lecture to an audience of attentive Sixth Formers.

This has been another busy week in the PE Department with lots of matches being played.

It has been an exciting Book Week in the Junior School.

We enjoyed a wonderful Form 1 assembly.

U2 visited the STEM Fair in the Senior School and were fascinated by the variety of stalls, exhibiting experiments, inventions, models and scientific findings.

Despite it being a slightly cold and windy first week back, we have continued to keep our spirits up in PE.

L2 pupils were raft building, navigating the low ropes and braving the heights of the climbing wall and giant swing on PGL. 

Pupils were very excited to meet Dolly Parton when she paid a special visit to LEH this week.

Munira Wilson, MP for Twickenham undertook a whistle stop tour of some of the many STEM research and enrichment activities being undertaken at LEH.

The past week has been a great week for Sport at LEH.

This Sunday, the Drama department hosted our first …the girl writes workshops for U4 and L5 students and a theatre directing workshop for our Sixth Form students.

For our intrepid alumnae, the start of the new term signifies that it is just over 3 months until they start their Atlantic Row.

We are delighted to announce that Lady Eleanor Holles (LEH) joins Reach Academy and Hampton School as joint partners behind a ground-breaking new sixth form college for Feltham.

Many congratulations go out to all the Lady Eleanor Holles students who received their GCSE results this morning.

In this most challenging of years, Lady Eleanor Holles School students were celebrating this morning as they received their A level results.

The L6 cast worked magnificently together on stage to do Amy and Diya proud.

Whilst we have been restricted in terms of fixtures and tournaments for this term, we are delighted to have been able to compete and partake in athletics, cricket and tennis this half term with some fantastic results.

On 14th of June the Lower Sixth Biologists went on a trip to London Zoo, to support their learning about Ecosystems as part of their A level specification.

We were thrilled to still be able to have the whole school out on the field and enjoying the festivities, especially in the beautiful sunshine.

Upper Sixth students were given four insightful talks on relevant issues such as relationships and mental health; these sessions were particularly useful as we prepare for university next year.

Sadly our Sports day was cancelled due to possibly the wettest day of the term!

We were all recently able to enjoy the amazing L4 Drama Carnival on 15th June.

After over a year of no fixtures, we have been extremely busy this half term.

The Lower 2 pupils had a fantastic couple of days at PGL trying a wide range of activities. 

Form 1s had a wonderful day learning about different animals at Marwell Zoo.

Over the first weekend of May half-term, the J16 and Senior squads raced at National Schools Regatta.

U2 threw themselves into the activities on offer and had a fantastic time taking part in team building activities.

As part of the Eco Schools initiative, we are taking part in the Great Big School Clean.

The ‘England does a mile’ challenge was an enormous success on 30th April

Our 2021 Rock, Pop and Jazz Concert was a live, virtual release at the end of the Spring Term.

This year, although many of the usual Sixth Form activities were limited by circumstances beyond our control, the Upper Sixth were thrilled to have the chance to stage an all-female version of “Posh”.

The Lower Sixth Biology students had the incredible opportunity of taking part in a virtual study day – ‘Rare Disease Day’, by Royal Holloway University of London.

When we asked our alumnae recently 'what's the boldest thing you've ever done?', we didn't think it'd be the truly astonishing fundraising challenge two former LEH students are taking on this year.

We're very proud to report that Melanie Ivarsson (Class of 1990) is Chief Development Officer at Moderna, the US based pharmaceutical company that has developed one of the first COVID-19 vaccines.

On 27^th November, the 3rds took part in LEH’s first Beginners’ Model United Nations Conference.

The 10^th October is World Mental Health Day.

We had a wonderful response to our harvest foodbank appeal.

What an extraordinary year this has been, and what a stressful and confusing exam season for all concerned.

A level Results Day at LEH may not have been celebrated in the usual way.

For their second virtual choir project, the Holles Singers decided to learn and record the luscious ‘Loving Kindness’ by Howard Goodall.

The Upper Sixth rowing squad have raised over £2300 for Shooting Star Hospice by each rowing a marathon on indoor rowing machines and exercise bikes.

The Holles Singers singing in tribute to those magnificent pro musicians who’ve had their income wiped out, but continue to inspire & uplift us from lockdown because music is their life.

The Phlebotomist, a dystopian play, is set in a world where a single blood test dictates people’s entire lives, giving them a rating out of 10 based on their predicted medical health.

Despite lockdown, the girl writes is in full swing.

In early March, UI enjoyed their Production week performing 'Peter Pan'

Music is life and we were all missing singing after shutdown.

Avani in UV is raising hope and funds for the NHS through her inspiring artwork.

Head of Textiles Anne Marie Angliss decided to put her expert sewing and design skills to good use over the Easter holidays to help combat the lack of PPE equipment for NHS workers.

During the Easter holidays the Supersonics, a team of Form I’s from the Junior School, came together to raise money for the NHS.

On 8^th March 15 students from U4-U6 celebrated International Women’s Day by taking part in the launch of ‘…the girl writes’, a continuation of Write the Girl which aims to support the next generation of female playwrights.

When asked how I felt about the creation of Wellington 24, my succinct (and generally accompanied by an obnoxious Scottish accent) reply is always “absolutely brilliant!”.

In traditional celebration of World Book Day on 5^th March, the girls (and teachers) came to school dressed as characters from a whole range of stories.

On 28 February, we accompanied four very ‘lively’ UII netball teams to Shrewsbury in preparation for the JCA netball tournament.

We were thrilled to take part in a printing workshop this Monday, lead by Nicole Line, artist and textiles tutor, using the department’s exciting new heat press.

In half term, a group of us embarked on the annual GCSE Spanish trip to Salamanca to immerse ourselves in the language and culture.

On Animation Day LII pupils brought their class-reading book ‘Journey to the River Sea’ to life during Animation Day.

Our Junior swimmers have been very busy over the last two weeks.

Another busy week in the LEH Sport Department which wasn't too disrupted by Storm Ciara.

Staying with the theme of bravery and meddling emotions, Form IH shared their fabulous family assembly with us on 7^th February.

On 7^th February we enjoyed our annual Global Play Day with an afternoon of fun, child led play activities in the Junior School.

Another busy week of Lacrosse and Netball fixtures with LEH sport.

The LEH Careers Evening was a great success with over 60 delegates in attendance, many of whom were LEH alumnae or current parents.

The 15 of us (including Miss Lindsay and Miss Monteil) had been anticipating our History of Art trip to Italy for weeks.

11 year old student, Aleeza was a finalist in a recent national computational thinking challenge at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Oxford, putting her in the top 1% of her age group.

On 25 January, the U11 A team played a netball tournament at Newland House School.

Form IE took us on an adventure through time and space.

Form I pupils welcomed the “WWII Warden’s Workshop” and enjoyed a captivating educational workshop, which included role-play and sounds from WWII.

Congratulations to our wonderful Upper Sixth students who have received a plethora of offers of places at top universities.

On 24^th January, UIIE showcased their family assembly, which was great fun and included a few familiar faces from the staffroom!

Kingston Museum was an amazing experience because we actually saw a skeleton dating back to Anglo-Saxon times.

Bright and early on 24th October, PRE and Classics LEH students flew to Rome for four days of exploring.

The LEH Drama Llamas had an incredible trip to explore New York City Theatre land.

It was our first netball match of the term and fortunately, the weather was looking up.

This had been a trip which we had been looking forward to for months and for my year group in particular, the anticipation helped us to survive GCSEs.

On 5^th December, the English Department hosted Dr Ezra Horbury, British Academy Postdoctoral Research Fellow at University College London, for the second of this year's Literary Lectures. 

Catherine (UIV) has been chosen as one of the eight finalists for the BBC Radio 2 Young Chorister of the Year Competition.

The money is still rolling in, but more than £58,000 has been raised so far at the incredibly successful Great Big Bursary Ball at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday night (November 30^th), with all proceeds going directly to the LEH Bursary Fund.

On 27th November, the English Department was delighted to host Dr Laura Cleaver for the first of this academic year's Literary Lectures. 

Well done to our cross-country runners who represented the school in the Richmond Borough cross-country event.

The Winter Concert, held at the Rose Theatre in Kingston on 20th November, added to the pre-Christmas atmosphere.

While half term proved a well-earned rest for most, we still had various expeditions for our Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Performing in Return to the Forbidden Planet has been a real high-point this year!

The highlight before half term, of course, was our annual Wellbeing Day on 9^th October.

Regardless of the rain, we definitely enjoyed the trip, and a highlight was seeing the view from the London Orbital.

Maggie, Mina, Alice and Orla (all in LIVU) entered the IUPAC IYPT Nobelium competition in the summer term.

Wellbeing Day on 9th October provided pupils and staff with the opportunity to take a break from the usual routine and enjoy a fun packed day of activities.

Catherine took home the winning title in the 12-14 category for her detailed, labelled drawings of the American flamingo, including skeleton, skull, its external appearance and digestive system.

It was another great week for all our girls sporting fixtures across the last 7 days and despite the ever changing weather, we had another busy week.

We have had a fantastic start to our term in the PE department with lots of fixtures & time trials kicking off the season.

We really enjoyed being LVI Creative Directors and were excited when we heard about the project of the new science mural to help promote women in science within LEH School.

LEH girls in the Junior School have had great success in this year’s UK Chess Challenge, the World’s Largest Chess Tournament.

On 11^th September, Form I enjoyed a fun day of problem solving and team building activities.

I was really surprised and delighted to win the Star Print’s Young Artist Competition over the summer.
