Visit by author, Linda Buckley Archer
The children's author, Linda Buckley Archer visited LEH recently to talk about her writing career and to read exerts from her books to an enraptured audience. At the end of the presentation, a long queue of girls gathered to have copies of her books signed and to meet the author in person. Azreen Hayath (Form 3L) gives an account of the visit.
'On the 29th of January Linda Buckley Archer came to LEH to give a talk about the trilogy she has written called ‘The Time Quake'. I think the talk was very interesting because she talked about London and how people lived in the 18th century. I also learnt a great deal of vocabulary that was used in that century for example ‘footpads', ‘cutpurse' and ‘angler'. They were all types of thieves that you found on roads in the 1700's.
I have read ‘Gideon the Cutpurse' which is the first book in the trilogy. It was on my holiday reading list at my old school. It is a very good book because there's a villain called ‘the tar man' and also there's a sort of a hero called ‘Gideon'. I have also bought the second book in the trilogy called ‘The Tar Man' which looks like a very interesting book as well. At the end of the talk, we had the chance to ask questions and find out how to become an author.'
