Charity Cheque Presentation
On Monday 30th January, we were delighted to welcome representatives of the charity Plan to the school to receive a cheque for £9,045. This wonderful sum of money was raised from last term's Fun Run organised by a number of parents as part of the school's 300th anniversary celebration. Plan run the campaign ‘Because I am a girl' which is the school's chosen charity during this special year.
The cheque was presented during assembly by two members of the Fun Run organising committee, Leann Connelly and Fiona Scott, accompanied by members of the Charity Committee. Receiving the cheque of behalf of the charity was Plan volunteer Debbie Langdon-Davies, whose father founded Plan in 1937. During a short presentation, she gave a moving account of the charity's work, reminding the audience that at least 75 million girls around the world are not in school, and urging everyone to support the latest campaign ‘Take the Vow', as well as thanking the school for being so actively involved in raising funds.
In addition to the money raised by the Fun Run, the school's other fundraising activities for this worthy cause continue in earnest and to-date, during this school year, an additional sum of £12,000 pounds has been raised, taking the total already to the magnificent sum of £21,000.
