Broadway Nights
The musical extravaganza, ‘Broadway Nights' was staged on the 28th and 29th January. Katerina Russman and Amy Horrell in the Upper Fifth, were on hand to review this entertaining production.
Walking into the Drama studio, the audience was instantly transported back in time and lured into a buzzing hub of lights and Swinging Sixties music, intoxicated by the smell of delicious, classic American diner food. With the scene set perfectly, our very own cash bar where hunger pangs were satisfied, an unforgettable night of entertainment ensued….
With a star-studded cast of Susie Chaytow, Holly Layton, Paige Reynolds, Yasmin Rai and Miss Fanning, Broadway Nights took the audience through time of musical history. The cast sung excerpts from musicals such as Rodgers' and Hammerstein's Oklahoma!, from 1931; Mary Poppins: The Musical by Robert and Richard Sherman; and The Sound of Music.
The cast had the audience in awe with their brilliance, clapping along and tapping their feet. The atmosphere was electrifying and everyone had a memorable Friday night.
Speaking with the cast back-stage after the show Reynolds and Layton declared ecstatically: ‘What a brilliant turn-out and atmosphere – a great way to conclude such a wonderful production!' Yasmin Rai, in the Lower Fifth, exclaimed: ‘It was great to have such momentous support from family and friends.'
The audience declared the evening as ‘spectacular' and ‘an amazing night of entertaining Broadway classics.'
We even had a performance from Mrs Ashe, Director of Music, who could not help herself from participating in such toe-tapping fun and strode down the ‘Broadway' stage with an awesome performance of ‘Practically Perfect' from Mary Poppins: The Musical.
It was a surreal, entertaining and compelling night and it was fantastic also to see vocalists of all ages collaborating to produce such a glitzy and glamorous show capable of captivating absolutely anyone.
