Links with Other Organisations

We have established strong links with organisations such as Amnesty,'Make Proverty History', the United Nations Youth and Student Associations and many others.

There is an active Amnesty Club, which presents at assemblies and undertakes campaigns, raising awareness throughout the school. Last year, two pupils won Amnesty's prize as best individual fund raisers, following a charity walk, a Secret Policeman's Ball, and a book sale.

Global Citizenship

  • Under the aegis of the school's ‘Make Poverty History' group and the House Eco Committees, pupils have been active in raising awareness of a number of environmental and ethical issues, including climate change, AIDS and Fair Trade.
  • During 2010-11, the school continued to develop its environmental programmes. In October 2009, it was awarded the Eco School ‘Bronze Award'. The school is now actively working towards the ‘Silver' award and ‘Fair Trade' status.

The school marked ‘World Aids Day' with a number of events in school, and raised some £900, which was donated to the National Aids Trust.

The school's Model United Nations group discusses and raises awareness of global issues. The school organised and hosted two conferences in 2010-11, one for over 100 delegates in February 2011, and one for 100+ delegates from Hampton ISSP schools in June 2011.

The school is a registered member of the Eden Project's ‘Gardens for Life' scheme, developing a wildlife area on previously un-reclaimed land adjacent to school property. Local schools have been invited to take part in this project.

The school is a founder-member of the Global Students' Forum, which exists to enable school students, of all faiths and none, to think carefully about the spiritual, moral, social and culturalissues underlying global citizenship, and to help others to do the same, with Sixth Form students attending the annual conference each year.

Sixth Form pupils assist with Barnardo's Activity Clubs on Saturday mornings in Hounslow, run for children with special needs, and have won the following awards over the past few years:

  • Volunteers of the Year
  • The Wavemakers Award
  • The Marsh Volunteer of the Year Award

In 2010-11 saw the second year of funding from the SHINE Trust for a ‘Serious Fun on Saturdays' programme. 40 Year 5 girls from local state junior/primary schools attended enrichment sessions on Saturday mornings for fourteen weeks from November 2010 – March 2011. These sessions are run by LEH staff and mentored by nine members of the Sixth Form, using the school's facilities. See http://www.shinetrust.org.uk/site/pages/119_thelehs.php. The participating schools were:

  • Buckingham Primary School
  • Oriel Primary School
  • Trafalgar Junior School
  • Crane Park Primary School
  • Forge Lane Primary School
  • Heathfield Junior School
  • St Ignatius Primary School
  • Hampton Junior School

The school takes part in the Student Associates Scheme, a national project funded by the Training and Development Agency for Schools.
