Cultural, Environmental and Sporting Contributions

Members of staff of local schools and local civic leaders are invited to school plays and musicals.

Cultural Contribution

LEH students regularly take part in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, in 2009 taking a up a production of ‘Sweeney Todd'.

Musicians from LEH support music-making in local primary schools, including the following activities:

  1. LEH commissioned a major new cantata for pupils at local state primary schools, ‘Henry's Revel', led and organised by music staff from LEH, as part of the celebrations surrounding the 500th anniversary of the accession of Henry VIII. The work was performed by pupils from Carlisle Infant School, Hampton Hill Junior school, Hampton Junior School and LEH at Hampton Court Palace.
  2. The Director of Music regularly takes choir rehearsals at two local junior/infant schools
  3. Pupils assist at concerts with local schools, and played for the Hampton Hill Junior School Valentine Ball

Pupils take part in local and national artistic bodies, for example the National Youth Choir, Thames Youth Orchestra, and Stoneleigh Youth Orchestra

The school is keen for its facilities to be used for cultural pursuits, and local groups have in the past made use of the school's facilities free of charge, including Stoneleigh Youth Orchestra, the Kodaly Society of Great Britain, and Chelsea Opera Group.

The Drama Company, SMF Productions, lease drama facilities at a reduced rate three times a year. Sporting Distinctions

The Environment

The school has active Eco Committees and groups, which raise awareness of environmental issues through assemblies and Eco Awareness Days, and has undertaken environmental audits and implemented action plans to encourage greater environmental responsibility.

The school operates a paper, printer cartridge and mobile phone recycling service for its staff and pupils, and recycles food waste from the dining halls.

The school runs a ‘Fair Trade' stall each week, and is working towards ‘Fair Trade' status by 2011.

The school leases land from the Royal Parks, which is being developed into an environmental zone. Local schools have been invited to help develop and utilise.

The school was recognised as an Eco School (Bronze Award) in October 2009. See http://www.eco-schools.org.uk/ for the benchmark for accreditation.
