The Lady Eleanor Holles School

Curriculum

III-UV (Years 7-11)

In the first three years of the Senior School (Years 7-9), we deliver a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum which includes two modern foreign languages, designated ICT lessons, Design and Technology (embracing Food, Textiles and Resistant Materials), the integrated "Spotlight Science" course which after two years evolves into the three separate sciences, and Latin for all in Years 8 and 9.

From this broad base, selection rather than specialisation for the GCSE years (Years 10 and 11) gives pupils ample scope to respond to their individual bias and inclination. At present the core is small: Mathematics, English and English Literature, with seven further subjects chosen from groups; a specimen is given below.

All pupils take GCSE English and English Literature and GCSE Mathematics.
Seven further GCSE subjects are chosen.
ONE subject from each group above, keeping in mind a balance of Arts, Humanities and Sciences.

Although choice is wide, we insist that at least one science and one modern language are chosen and PE and PSHE are compulsory for all. All GCSE subjects are taught in four periods per week except for Mathematics, English and the new modern languages (Spanish and Russian) which have five periods.

We do not enter pupils for National Curriculum Key Stage tests but our teaching is geared to meet comfortably, and exceed, their requirements.
