About the Junior Department
 |
| Mrs Jennifer Adams, Head of Junior Department |
The Junior Department is proud of its ethos of excellence within a family atmosphere, and seeks to develop bright, happy and confident girls. We provide a purposeful, stimulating and secure environment for the girls, who mostly join us at seven, from a wide range of independent and maintained schools. The majority proceed to the Senior Department at eleven, through the school’s 11+ entry procedures. Standards are high, and girls generally work in advance of their chronological age and standard year group. |
The Curriculum
 |
| Junior Science |
The Junior Department curriculum is based on the National Curriculum, including the Primary National Strategy. It is challenging, and designed to give a balanced educational experience covering academic and creative subjects, and many sporting activities.

Pastoral Care
 |
| A group of LEH friends |
We work hard to establish and maintain a caring, supportive atmosphere in which girls feel confident to be themselves, to respect and care for everyone in the community, to be proud of their achievements and to persevere with things they initially find difficult.

Key Stage 2
 |
| Sharing ideas |
In 2007, the Uppers IIs took the Key Stage 2 National Tests (which were marked internally) and 93% of those entering English achieved level 5, the highest possible level at this stage. 93% achieved level 5 in Mathematics, and 96% in Science. The few remaining results were all at level 4. |
The Creative Arts
 |
| Playing the violin |
The Arts flourish at Burlington House; they play an important part in the girls' development and enrich the life of the school. We offer class music and individual lessons in a particularly wide range of instruments, one of the many advantages of our links with the Senior Department. Drama is taught within lessons and as an extra-curricular activity, and Art and Deign Technology are greatly enjoyed.
