Hindu Workshop

As part of their studies of world religions, the Upper IIs were delighted to welcome a priest from Bhaktivenda Manor to the school for a workshop based on the Hindu religion. As well as learning more about the Hindu way of life, the girls were particularly thrilled to find out more about the elaborate wedding ceremonies and enjoyed the chance to try on traditional dress.

We learnt many new traditions and aspects of Hinduism but in a fun, comfortable way. Being from a Hindu background, I learnt more about my own culture and the way they look upon life. My favourite part of the whole workshop has to be when we all dressed up in beautiful soft silk-woven saris and painted our faces with special herbal paints and bindis. We all loved it and I will remember it forever. Indri was excellent at teaching children and it was obviously a profession of his. He combined facts with humour – the perfect teaching combination.'

'My favourite part of the workshop was dressing up; there were several boxes full of elaborate saris. Once we were shown how to tie them, we were allowed to choose a matching bindi, after that we went and had gopi dots painted on our face.'

'My favourite moment of the workshop was when we meditated and sat in silence for two minutes without saying a word.'
