European Theatre Company Performance

On Friday 11 April, the Upper IIs, Thirds and Lower Fourths were all invited to watch and take part in a very exciting play in French entitled Cendrine Bio, presented by the European Theatre Company.

The play tells the story of Cendrine who is a very clever young girl who lives with her two sisters tucked away in a town in the winemaking region of Beaujeu, in the shadow of the shoemaker’s factory.

Cendrine Bio struggles to convince her careless and selfish sisters that they have a responsibility to take more care of the environment. Where they trash, she tidies, where they relax, she works hard. But Cendrine seems undefeated by their attitude.

But when Cendrine gets a last minute invitation to the local shoe factory owner’s annual Green Disco, things start to look up for Cendrine. She hires some party gear off the internet and sets off for the party.

In order to make better use of the recyclable waste, she decides to design a shoe using this most effectively and to take it to the party with her. As the party hots up she gets quite friendly with the owner’s son Robert until the clock strikes midnight and the clothes hire man comes back to take back her special outfit. Humiliated by this process, she flees, dropping behind her special design. Soon a competition is announced to design a recycled shoe and all are invited to take part. Robert returns to their house and discover it is Cendrine who really is Bio (i.e. environmentally friendly). Robert, very impressed by her intelligence and commitment to environmental issues, is smitten!

The pupils were given plenty of opportunities to sing, dance and to participate in all aspects of the play and thoroughly enjoyed helping Cendrine out.
