Our Aims

The Educational Ethos and Aims of the School

Statement of Ethos

One of the earliest documents about The Lady Eleanor Holles School states that its aim is ‘to produce young women of grace and integrity’. The present school continues to subscribe to that intention, and it is fundamental to our ethos.

We place great emphasis on the development of the well-rounded individual, while striving for academic excellence. We seek to provide opportunities for wide-ranging achievement; we encourage each girl to develop her values, individuality, strength of character and purpose, and her particular talents, so that she may not only gain personal fulfilment, but be a responsible member of society. We hope that the girls will leave us well prepared for adult life, possessed of a joy in learning and in all the opportunities life offers, and a belief in the values of education, civilisation, humanity and community.

Statement of Religious Foundation

The school is a Christian foundation, but welcomes girls of all faiths and none. It is committed to the contribution it makes to society as a whole, and to equal opportunities, and it embraces diversity.

Educational Aims
In our work with the girls at LEH, we aim to:

•    offer an education which is challenging, stimulating and well-resourced, enabling high achievement, in an academically selective context;

•     provide  a curriculum which is appropriately broad-based and incorporates suitable flexibility and opportunity for specialisation;

•     teach and care for the girls to the highest standards;

•     respond, within the context of the school community, to the needs of the individual girl;

•     provide opportunities for extra-curricular activities which enrich and extend the girls’ education;

•     celebrate achievement and effort in the various studies and activities the girls undertake;

•     encourage self-confidence, self-esteem, adaptability and

       independence of thought,  and to support the girls’ personal,

       moral and spiritual development;

•     encourage respect and consideration for others;

•     enable the girls to appreciate and understand the world in which we live, its diversity, resources, needs and opportunities, and to encourage them to contribute to the school and the wider community;

•     create an atmosphere that is happy, supportive and

       purposeful, and provide an environment that is attractive and

       stimulating;

•     provide for the welfare, health and safety of all girls;

•     prepare them well for the next stage in their education and the challenges, opportunities and responsibilities of their adult lives.

These aims are supported and further developed through the policies of the school.
