Class Representatives
In each year of school between Form 1 in the Juniors and Upper 5 in the Seniors, there are volunteer parent class representatives. Being class rep is not a job for life and usually one or two mums (though fathers are not excluded) are reps for a year at a time.
The main job of the reps falls into 4 categories:
- Social - Organising get-togethers for parents of the girls in their class. This might be anything from a coffee morning to a mums' night out to an evening for couples. Often, when classes are new the reps might organise a picnic or pizza trip in the summer before term starts so the girls can meet each other. Particularly in the Juniors, the classes often organise end of term gatherings such as ice-skating at Hampton Court or discos or picnics for girls and parents. However, how much socialising takes place is entirely up to the class and the rep.
- Class lists - When the girls join the school in either in Form 1 in the Junior Department or in the first year of senior school, class lists are compiled and distributed by The Friends. Following this, the class reps keep an up to date record of parents' contact details and regularly distribute them to the class and to The Friends.
- Information conduit - The Class Reps are an invaluable source of information and ideas. The Friends usually have a formal reps' meeting in the Autumn term and aim to keep reps informed about planned events or activities. Ideally class reps act as an information conduit, not only passing information on to their respective classes, but also referring ideas and suggestions back from their class to The Friends. Additionally, The Friends and Mrs Low usually jointly host a reps' lunch in the Autumn term for new and previous class reps.
- Christmas Bazaar – Reps and their classes take the responsibility for a specific stall at the annual Xmas Bazaar. Full briefing details and support are given when these are allocated at the beginning of the autumn term.
