Autumn Term Rowing Round Up
Wallingford Long Distance Sculls.
In October, LEH BC took to the River Thames for the first race of the 2011/12 season. Representing LEH in the first division, 24 crews took to the water. Millie Dunster and Emma Cates came second in the J16 doubles, along with Elizabeth Horne just crossing the line in second place (by just over 3 seconds) to Eton Excelsior. Carmen Traseira and Rebecca Cherrett came first in the J15 double. During the afternoon the J18 4x- of Grace Bolton, Georgia Richard, Elizabeth Horne and Kate Davis finish in first place with a second place from the J15 4x+ of Nadia Starr, Alice O'Malley, Alice Elliott, Amy Polglase and Damneek Dua.
Weybridge Silver Sculls
The J14s came away with a win for the J14 double of Frances Kelly and Alida Van Der Eems, beating the second crew by over a minute, with the other two doubles placing third and fourth. In the J14 quads event, 5 LEH quads raced, with one placing fifth and the other tenth.
Upper Thames Small Boats Head
The J14 quad of Ella Murphy, Laura Donaldson, Frances Kelly, Olivia Gibbons and Rose Humphry came second, only 6 seconds behind their tough competition of Henley Boat Club. Two other LEH J14 quads were third and fifth. The J14 double of Amber Bagshaw and Romily Swarbrick also came second, with the other double coming fourth. In the J15 doubles Carmen Traseira and Alice Elliot won, narrowly beating Rebecca Cherret and Amy Polgase by four seconds, with the other three doubles all finishing within the top ten.
The J15 top quad of Carmen Traseira, Alice Elliot, Rebecca Cherret, Amy Polgase and cox Celia Davies won their category ahead of tough competition, including two other LEH J15 quads.
Fours Head of the River
The LEH coxed quad of Kate Davis, Georgia Richard, Grace Bolton, Katya Miryanova and cox Beth Williams won their category in joint first place with close rivals Trentham Boat Club.
Wallingford Head
On Sunday 27th November, the LEH senior and J15 rowing squads headed to Wallingford Head Race. Most rowers raced in two divisions.
In their first race of the season the LEH first Eight of Georgina Lloyd, Kate Davis, Anna Stuart, Millie Dunster, Georgia Richard, Grace Bolton, Katya Miryanova, Hazel Bruce and cox Elizabeth Williams set the standard with a win by over a minute. The J15s also raced in the first division in two eights, with a win for the first 8 of Lizzie Hoyle, Amy Polglase, Rebecca Cherrett, Alice Elliott, Carmen Traseria, Nadia Starr, Alice O'Malley, Ciara Nuttall and cox Celia Davies.
Also in the first division the J16 4 of Imogen Misso, Emma Bentley-Fox, Antonia Austyn, Emma Cates and cox Eloise Rogers placed a frustrating second in their category.
In the second division, the J16s raced in an Eight of Hazel Bruce, Emma Bentley-Fox, Millie Dunster, Anna Stuart, Toni Austyn, Emma Cates, Jennie Williamson, Zaina Sharif and cox Mairi Fuller in the tough category of Intermediate womens, and placed an impressive third. Finally, the J15s raced in 3 coxed fours, with the crew of Carmen Trasiera, Alice Elliot, Rebecca Cherrett, Amy Polgase and cox Claudia Caravello winning the category.
Hampton Small Boats Head
The J15 top quad of Rebecca Cherrett, Carmen Traseira, Alice Elliott, Amy Polglase and cox Celia Davies came fifth in their category of 21 crews, in front of 3 other LEH crews.
The J15 top double of Amy Polglase and Alice Elliott came fourth in their category of 17 boats, ahead of 6 other LEH doubles. In the J17 double, Grace Bolton and Hazel Bruce finished an impressive second in a field of 24 boats, and they also went on to win the J17 pairs event. In the J16 doubles, racing against 25 crews, all 4 LEH boats finished in the top 15, with one in the top 5. The J18 pair of Kate Davis and Georgia Richard came second in their category and finally, Hattie Evans, racing in the women's novice singles came first.
