Vivien Jones Cup 2011
The inaugural lacrosse match took place on a sunny Sunday in March. A team from the senior school were up against a team of alumnae. Two of Vivien's former class mates – Sian Roberts and Melanie Knight, as were – played, in my view, brilliantly. That the sticks were used for hurling balls around, rather than walking, was a triumph. You might have expected a pushover, but the thrilling match ended in a 6 – 6 draw.
Vivien's daughter, Sara Jones, both played and presented the cup. Her sister, Nicola, was on hand to offer quiet encouragement. The happy atmosphere of a good spirited game spilled over in to the refreshments pavilion after. Vivien would have loved it.
