International Day
On Monday 26th September the Junior Department celebrated International Day. The girls came to school dressed in a colourful array of costumes representing all parts of the world. We were delighted that so many parents volunteered their skills and expertise in different cultures, to make classes so memorable.
One of the highlights for the girls in Form I was a demonstration workshop of Bharatanatyam, given by Shalini Shivashankar. This is one of the traditional classic dance forms from the Southern India Sate and involved the use of ‘Hastas' or expressive hand gestures.
The money raised from the day (from wearing Mufti) will go to the Chikumbi School in Zambia with whom we already have strong links. The Upper IID girls who have been exchanging letters with the Chikumbi children held a delicious cake sale on the day to boost the funds raised for this worthy cause.
We all agreed that our first ever International Day was a big success.
