300th Anniversary Fun Run
A charity Fun Run/Walk took place in Bushy Park on Saturday, September 24th as part of LEH's 300th Anniversary celebrations.
We were delighted that Olympic rowing hopeful Jo Cook, a former LEH pupil, supported the event by sounding the starting gun and also completing the 5K run. At the recent World Rowing Championships in Slovenia, Jo was in the women's eight which finished in bronze place securing qualification to next year's London 2012 Olympics.
With entrants aged 7 and upards, approximately 400 participants completed the course. It was wonderful to see so many families taking part (and in some instances three generations of LEH pupils from the same family). A fun aerobics warm up was held before the start of the race, and musicians from LEH entertained the crowds before and after the event.
Money raised from the event will be donated to the charity Plan UK's campaign, ‘Because I am a girl' which aims to ensure girls in the world's poorest countries can access a quality education. This is the school's chosen charity for its 300th Anniversary year. A page on the Just Giving website has been set up to assist with donations - simply click onto this link: www.justgiving.com/LEH300FunRun.
Our thanks to the committee of parents who organised the event (Leann Connolly, Fi Scott, Jane Sadr- hashemi, Susy Broekhuizen, Jatinder Dua, Camilla Gilbert, Rita Kamat, Debbie Kingston, Elizabeth Ambekar) and also to the sponsors - ADT Alarms, The Sweatshop (for providing race numbers) and United Biscuits (for providing biscuit packs for all the entrants). Also a big thank you to everyone who took part or sponsored the entrants.
