The school is looking for musicians who, although may not be intending to study music at A level, are able to make a serious commitment to the Music Department.
Candidates should prepare 2 pieces, each of approximately 5 minutes duration, on their first instrument and a short piece, no more than 5 minutes, for a second or third instrument if appropriate. In addition there will also be aural tests and an interview. Auditions are held towards the end of November after the written examination papers have been marked and should last approximately 20 minutes.
Third Form (Year 7) Entry Requirements:
Applicants for a Music Scholarship in the Third Form should generally have the minimum of a Grade IV pass, although candidates with considerable potential who have been learning an instrument for only a short time should not be deterred from making an application. In addition the Music Department is looking for talented young players with good aural and sight reading ability.
Candidates will be expected to play one or two contrasting pieces (depending on length, but not exceeding five minutes altogether) on their first instrument. If a second instrument is offered, a short piece of three/four minutes should be prepared. Appropriate ear and sight reading tests will be given. Auditions are held towards the end of January after the written examination papers have been marked and should last no more than 20 minutes.
All Music Scholarships will be for 10% of the tuition fee and are not subject to subsequent financial assessment. In addition Music Scholars will receive free tuition for one instrument from a teacher employed by the School.
